The Openbank Aspar Team rider will start from third position after finishing just 98 thousandths off the best time. His teammate Kevin Zannoni will start from fifth place
Openbank Aspar Team rider Jordi Torres has been just 98 thousandths off securing the last pole of the MotoE season and will start from the front row of the grid for the first time this year. Torres has started the San Marino GP pretty strongly, with the second and third best times in the practice sessions. This has allowed him to go straight into Q2, a session in which he has once again shone. In his last attempt in qualifying, already under the chequered flag, the Spanish has set a time of 1:39.954, which is enough for him to start from third position in the two races that will be held tomorrow at the Misano World Circuit – Marco Simoncelli. Ahead of Torres will start Mattia Casadei, who has taken pole position, and Eric Granado, who has finished just 31 thousandths faster than the Openbank Aspar Team rider.
His teammate Kevin Zannoni will start tomorrow from fifth position on the grid. Zannoni has also gone straight to Q2, after always being among the top eight in the practice sessions. In qualifying, the Italian has completed his best lap in 1:40.019 and has finished only 65 thousandths away from starting from the front row of the grid in his home race. Tomorrow, Zannoni will give everything to get on the podium in front of his fans and will fight for the title until the end. The Openbank Aspar Team rider faces the last two races from third position in the standings, 44 points off the leader, Héctor Garzó.
The electric category will crown the 2024 world champion tomorrow and Garzó is the clear favourite to win it, as he has a 38-point lead over the second-placed rider with only 50 points left to play for. However, all his rivals in the fight for the championship will start ahead of him and will try to squeeze their title chances. Garzó, after coming from Q1, has achieved the eighth best time, while Casadei will start from pole, Zannoni will do so from fifth position and Óscar Gutiérrez from sixth.
3rd Jordi Torres 1:39.954 (+0.098): “It is a great result. Getting third place on the grid in Misano is incredible after everything we have been through this year. We have fought all season, we have had good moments, but also bad moments when we were not having good results. I have never stopped training, I have always felt comfortable with the bike and with the team, we have worked really well, but we did not get the results we wanted. We lacked speed. I have continued working until I have managed to leave that grey cloud behind and focus on the weapons I have. Tomorrow we will have to fight like a tiger. If we get a podium, it will be great for the team.”
5th Kevin Zannoni 1:40.019 (+0.163): “We have completed a good day. We start from the second row and, although I expected more, it is a good result. Everything is very tight, we are a tenth off the first and we start from fifth position. Tomorrow, I expect a very close battle. We have two of our main rivals behind us and one in front. We will fight to finish with the best possible result.”
