David got on a motorbike for the first time when he was only five years old and since then his life has been linked to motorcycling. In fact, most of his sporting career has been linked to the Aspar Team, joining the team when he was just 11 years old. In this time, he has become one of the most promising young riders trained in the Aspar Team Junior.
Since his beginnings, the Colombian has made a brilliant progression: in 2018 he was proclaimed Spanish 85GP champion, while in 2020 he repeated the feat in the European Talent Cup and, the following year, he did the same in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, taking six victories and a total of ten podiums. With three titles in just five seasons, David Alonso became Aspar Team Junior's most successful rider. His official debut in the World Championship came in 2021, at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, replacing Sergio García. In addition, in 2022 he also participated as a guest rider in the Portuguese Grand Prix.
2023 was his first year as a full-time rider in the Moto3 World Championship, scoring four wins and another four podiums. His first victory came at the British Grand Prix, where he made a great comeback after starting from the last position. Barcelona and San Marino saw David Alonso on the top step of the podium consecutively, while Thailand was the scene of another victory. With these results, the young rider became the best rookie in the lightweight class.
After a brilliant debut, in which he finished third overall, the Colombian rider completed a dream 2024, surpassing all expectations and being a strong candidate in the fight for the title since the very beginning. David started the season with a victory in Qatar. This was just the starting point of a historic season, in which David Alonso and the CFMOTO Aspar Team were on the top step of the podium 14 times in the 20 rounds contested, adding also a second place at Silverstone. In the final stretch of the season, the Colombian rider took seven consecutive victories. The great work of the rider and the team was crowned when he won the Moto3 World Championship at the Japanese Grand Prix, with four races still to go. After an emotional celebration, Alonso completed the season with great results and became the rider with the most victories in Moto3 history, breaking even Valentino Rossi’s 11-wins in a season record.
In 2025 the reigning Moto3 champion will make the jump to the intermediate category and will race another season with the CFMOTO Aspar Team, this time as a Moto2 rider.
