CATALAN GP

Third row on the grid for the Openbank Aspar Team

Torres has qualified directly for Q2 and will start from seventh, while Zannoni has passed through Q1 and will start from eighth

The Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya celebrates the third round of the MotoE season, in which the Brazilian Eric Granado will start from pole position in both races. Granado has been fastest in the Catalan Grand Prix qualifying, setting a time of 1:48.215, and has finished just 32 thousandths ahead of his two immediate pursuers. Both the World Championship leader, Mattia Casadei, and Alessandro Zaccone have achieved the same time, 1:48.247, but it will be Casadei who will start from second place, since his second-best lap is faster than Zaccone’s, who will start third.

Both Openbank Aspar Team riders will start from the third row of the grid. Jordi Torres has been really competitive on the first day at the Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya, always close to the front positions. The Spanish has qualified directly for Q2, a session in which he has achieved the seventh best time. Tomorrow he will fight to come back and reach the podium in his home Grand Prix. His teammate Kevin Zannoni has finished in eighth position, having passed through Q1 with a best time of 1:48.365. However, in Q2 the Italian has been unable to replicate that time, a laptime that would have given him fourth position on the grid, and he will start from eighth.

7th Jordi Torres 1:48.747 (+0.532): “We are again on a really important circuit for me. It has been a good day of work, even though we have not been in the front positions, because the difference has always been constant and we have been close to the front. I am comfortable, I feel good on the bike and I think we are very competitive in many aspects. We are not shining in terms of results, we need to hit the key so that everything starts to go even better, but in what is in our hands we are giving our all."

8th Kevin Zannoni 1:48.797 (+0.582): “We have done a discreet qualifying, I expected something more. It is true that starting from Q1 is never easy, because the battery heats up and we are not able to fully recharge it between sessions. We have had a good Q1 riding alone, but in Q2 I have not felt with the same chances of doing as well. We will start from eighth, improving two positions compared to the French GP grid, where we finished second. We will try, although it will not be easy and we will have to fight.”
