Kevin Zannoni and Jordi Torres finished fifth and sixth respectively in France
The 2025 MotoE season finally got underway this weekend. The Power Electronics Aspar Team disputed this Friday the first practice and qualifying sessions in the opening round, which is taking place this weekend at Le Mans. Alessando Zaccone took his first pole of the year by just a few thousandths of a second ahead of Eric Granado. Óscar Gutiérrez completes the front row for the two races to be held on Saturday, while reigning champion Héctor Garzó has been declared unfit after suffering a crash this morning. Power Electronics Aspar Team riders Kevin Zannoni and Jordi Torres will occupy the second row of the grid, in fifth and sixth position respectively.
After a final day of pre-season testing on Thursday, Jordi Torres and Kevin Zannoni kicked off the first round of the calendar. The Power Electronics Aspar Team riders took advantage of this previous day to fine-tune their set-up in a complicated circuit where weather conditions play an important role. Torres was one of the most solid riders on Friday, and occupied the top positions in every session, even leading at times. The Spanish rider secured a direct pass to Q2 after finishing third in this morning's practice, while Kevin Zannoni also avoided Q1 by finishing fifth. Both riders set a good base for the first qualifying session of the season, in which yellow flags due to an early crash of another rider forced to cancel some laps. Zannoni kept a great pace and set his best time on the last lap: a 1:40.069 that placed him in fifth position, three tenths of a second off pole. Similarly, Jordi Torres also set his best time in the last minutes and was sixth with a time of 1:40.069, just behind his teammate.
5th Kevin Zannoni 1:39.888 (+0.343): “I'm very happy with the qualifying I did. In the end we got the second row, which will be important to make a good start tomorrow. The team has done a great job, because we have had some difficulties in these days of testing, but they have been able to solve them. We have laid a good base for this season and I think we can fight for good results.”
6th Jordi Torrres 1:40.069 (+0.524): “We are only half a second off pole, we knew that the rest of the riders were going to push hard today. I feel comfortable on the bike, I'm very confident and this is a track I like, but I can't find those tenths that I need to be in front. We have to polish some details in braking, as the way I brake now makes me ride a bit more cautiously, so we will keep working to be a bit more aggressive tomorrow. I trust the team one hundred percent, we have to be smart, and we know it's going to be a tough race, especially the first one of the year.”
