Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider scores six points in a Malaysian GP race in which David Alonso has suffered an incident that has left him out of the battle
Collin Veijer has made history at the Sepang circuit. The Dutchman has achieved a victory for Netherlands after 33 years without one. Veijer has taken the win after a race in which he has had to fight with the two main title contenders, Ayumu Sasaki and Jaume Masià, who have finished second and third, respectively. The race has been marked by an incident on the fifth lap. Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso has crashed in an incident that has seen up to four more riders out, with Dani Holgado among them. After not scoring any points in Malaysia, the Colombian and the Spanish are third and fourth in the standings, 41 points off the leader with only 50 up for grabs. The main pursuer of Jaume Masià, Ayumu Sasaki, has closed the gap to him by four points today and is now only thirteen points behind, so they will have to play their cards right if they want to take the world crown.
Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider Ryusei Yamanaka has closed the Malaysian Grand Prix with a top 10 position. The Japanese rider has had a difficult start and when he was trying to reach the front group, he has had to avoid the riders who have crashed on the fifth lap. With this incident, Yamanaka has lost several seconds and he has not been able to follow the strongest riders. Despite this, he has fought until the end to achieve a good result and has managed to finish in the top 10 for the second Grand Prix in a row. His teammate David Alonso has had a tough day in Sepang. The Colombian could not finish the race after crashing with eleven laps to go. Alonso had made up twelve positions and was already in the front group. However, he has lost the control of the bike after overtaking another rider and he has not been able to save the crash. With this result, the Colombian remains third in the overall standings, 28 points off the second.
10th Ryusei Yamanaka (+11.287): “At the beginning of the race a few riders crashed in front of me and I couldn’t escape the mess. That was unlucky because I lost some time. After that I tried to catch up again but it was difficult because I had a big fight on my hands with another rider. I tried to manage the situation. It was important to finish but we need better results. Qatar next and this is one of my favourite circuits so we will focus on the setup for the race.”
David Alonso (DNF): “A big shame because I was right there with the guys. The tire just broke away too quickly and I couldn’t save it. I want to apologize to the other riders because I ended up in the middle of everything. All I can do now is think about the next race.”
