The Japanese rider will start from the third row at the Americas Grand Prix, while David Alonso will begin from 22nd position
After completing a final practice session in which the Moto3 riders couldn't improve their times due to the wet track, the qualifying sessions were held in the dry. In them, Jaume Masià has been the fastest rider, taking his second pole position at this circuit after the one he achieved in 2021. The Spanish rider has been faster than Ayumu Sasaki, who has been on the front row of the grid in every race, and Iván Ortolá, who will start from third place. The riders who lead the overall standings, Daniel Holgado and Diogo Moreira, complete the top five.
Ryusei Yamanaka will start seventh at the Grand Prix of the Americas, his best grid position since his arrival at Valresa GASGAS Aspar. Yamanaka and Alonso have had a tough day at the Circuit of the Americas. Both had to compete in Q1, but only the Japanese rider was able to get into Q2 after setting the fourth fastest time. Yamanaka has felt comfortable in the second qualifying session and has set a laptime of 2:17.330, time that will allow him to start from the third row. His teammate David Alonso has gone through Q1 for the first time this season. The Colombian rider was unable to work on his pace today and will start the Americas Grand Prix from 22nd. Despite not finding the best feeling, Alonso is confident to have a good race tomorrow.
7th Ryusei Yamanaka 2:17.330 (+1.080): “I need to improve my feeling on this track. However, I did a good lap in the second qualifying session. I know where I need to improve compared to other riders. Tomorrow we will start in a better position compared to the previous races and we will have more chances. We will try to go out focused and push as we did today.”
22nd David Alonso 2:18.178 (+1.928): “The last practice session was complicated because the track was in mixed conditions. We were able to complete several laps and I felt better than yesterday. Already in the qualifying session I didn't get a good lap because it was difficult to run without being caught in the slipstream.”
