David Alonso and Ryusei Yamanaka close the first three back-to-back races of the year with the aim of consolidating among the fastest riders
This weekend, Assen will host the last race before the summer break for the Moto3 riders. After the German Grand Prix, the leader of the category, Dani Holgado, arrives with the biggest advantage he has had so far, more than 40 points over his pursuers. However, with Ayumu Sasaki's win at Sachsenring, Holgado now has a new opponent to challenge him. In 2022, it was Sasaki who took victory in the Netherlands, the first of his World Championship career, followed by GASGAS Aspar Team riders, Izan Guevara and Sergio García. He is still the only rider in the top five, along with Jaume Masià, who has not won yet this season. The leader, for now, is quite far away, but six points separate the rest of the riders in the top 5, including Iván Ortolá and Deniz Öncü. The first challenge for all of them in Assen will be to start to stand out to become the first of Holgado's pursuer.
The German Grand Prix was a positive one for the team and now Valresa GASGAS Aspar is ready to compete at Assen. After two Grands Prix races at tracks where he had already competed in the Rookies Cup, David Alonso arrives to another unknown circuit for him, and he does it with the bigger advantage he has had in the battle for the best rookie title in the category after two consecutive top 5 finishes. These results have brought him closer to the upper positions in the standings: he’s just 20 points off the top three. This weekend, Alonso will try to adapt quickly to the Assen track in order to be well prepared for Sunday's race and to close the first half of the season with good feelings. His teammate Ryusei Yamanaka has more experience at the Dutch track, where he finished eighth last year. Yamanaka heads into this Grand Prix from twelfth in the overall standings, but with a good result this weekend, he could break into the top ten of the category, from which he is only six points off.
David Alonso: “Assen is a new track for me. We will have to study the lines before we arrive and spend the first few laps getting to know the circuit. We will complete as many laps as possible in each session and try to be well prepared for the race.”
Ryusei Yamanaka: “The Dutch Grand Prix will be the third in a row this month. We will be looking to improve in practice and qualifying in order to get a good grid position, which would make it easier to fight for my first podium.”
