AMERICAS GP

Valresa GASGAS Aspar opens the Americas GP with good feelings

David Alonso and Ryusei Yamanaka will try to improve their times in tomorrow's practice session to qualify directly for Q2

The Moto3 riders have started their engines with two practice session in which the top six riders have all been within a second of each other. As he did in Argentina, Ayumu Sasaki has dominated the first day of action, setting a time of 2:16.306, just a tenth quicker than 2022 Grand Prix of the Americas winner Jaume Masià, who has ended in second place. Iván Ortolá has registered the third fastest time of a day marked by the wind and a light rain that has fallen on the American track.

David Alonso has finished the first day in the United States just outside the provisional Q2 positions. The Colombian rider has adapted quickly to a new circuit for him and has set a time of 2:18.000, just sixteen thousandths of a second off the top fourteen. Alonso is satisfied with his first day in Austin, but he will try to improve his lap time in the last practice session. His Valresa GASGAS Aspar teammate Ryusei Yamanaka has completed a day in which he found some difficulties to set a good lap time. The Japanese rider has felt the complexity of the American track and will be looking to improve his pace tomorrow.

15h David Alonso 2:18.000 (+1.694): “For a first day it wasn't bad at all. The circuit is complex, it's very different to others I've ridden on before. It takes quite a few laps to understand it because it has a lot of corners. We will have to work hard in the last practice session to be ready for qualifying. We are lacking a bit of pace and we will try to find it tomorrow.”

20th Ryusei Yamanaka 2:18. (+2.080): “This track has been difficult for me every time I've ridden here. However, today I found some things I liked. I rode comfortably, but in the second practice I couldn't set a good lap time because I have a lot of chattering. Right now, we are out of Q2, we will try to analyse what we need and we will look to improve in tomorrow's practice.”
