Valresa GASGAS Aspar comes back to a special circuit

David Alonso and Ryusei Yamanaka compete in Italy looking to gain positions in the overall standings

With the first quarter of the season over, the Moto3 riders return to action at Mugello. The Italian Grand Prix kicks off with three Spanish riders leading the championship. Daniel Holgado remains at the top of the overall standings with 84 points. The Spanish rider, who took his second win of the season in France, has a gap of 21 points over his pursuers, Iván Ortolá and Jaume Masià, who are tied on 63 points. However, this weekend there will be many more candidates for a victory in a circuit used to offer thrilling races, with one of the longest straights, where a slipstream can be the difference between the glory of a victory or the "disappointment" of a fourth place.

The Valresa GASGAS Aspar is back from the three-week break after the French Grand Prix and returns to a special circuit for the team. Last year, six riders finished the race separated by less than a second in an incredible weekend for the Valresa GASGAS Aspar, which ended with Sergio García and Izan Guevara taking a 1-2 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Jorge Martínez "Aspar" in the World Championship. Now, David Alonso and Ryusei Yamanaka will try to continue with their good feelings on the GASGAS to set the bar as high as possible. Alonso, who is actually placed as the best rookie in the category after finishing eighth in France, heads to Italy with the aim of improving his grid position compared to the last race weeks. The Colombian will try to have a complete weekend, including the qualifying sessions, to avoid having to come back on Sunday's race as he had to do in the Americas or France. His Valresa GASGAS Aspar teammate Ryusei Yamanaka comes to one of his favourite circuits. On this track, in 2022, the Japanese rider achieved his best result in the World Championship, a fifth position that he equalled three weeks ago in Le Mans. Yamanaka will be looking for good points in Italy that allow him to get into the top 10 of the overall standings, from which he is currently 8 points behind.

David Alonso: “When I competed in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, I got a podium at Mugello. It's a circuit I know, with a very long straight and fast corners. The chicane area is very important, with consecutive corners that we will have to prepare properly. It is a technical track, where we will have to find the right line if we want to go fast. As in all the previous Grands Prix, we will work from the first minute to prepare the race. I will give my 100% in all the sessions, especially on Saturday. It will be important to have a good practice to go straight into Q2 and get a better grid position.”

Ryusei Yamanaka: “This weekend we race at Mugello, a circuit I really like. Last year I finished in the top 5 and was able to fight for the podium, and this year I hope to do the same. I will try to complete a good qualifying session to get a better grid position. Every race I feel more comfortable with the bike and the team, so let's continue with these good feelings in Mugello.”
