Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso lies third, 25 points off the leader and will try to get a good result to stay alive in the championship fight
Moto3 riders are ready for their next challenge, the Malaysian Grand Prix. The Sepang circuit will host the first of the last three races of the season, with the fight for the title still open. Jaume Masià leads the standings with 17 points over Ayumu Sasaki and 25 points over David Alonso and Dani Holgado, who are tied in third and fourth place. Deniz Öncü and Iván Ortolà still have options, but their chances are smaller as they are 39 and 73 points behind Masià with only 75 up for grabs. The Malaysian Grand Prix will start to define which riders will reach the end of the season with title chances, so the contenders will have to compete with their heart, but also with their head. None of them will want to make mistakes.
Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso arrives to Malaysia after winning the ‘Rookie of the year’ title in Thailand with his fourth victory of the season. The Colombian wants to keep fighting for ambitious goals and heads into Sepang with the illusion of being in the fight for the World Championship title in his first season in the category. Alonso is already the rider with most victories of the year and, if he gets another positive result, he will be among the contenders for the title with two races to go. The Colombian is under no pressure as, whatever happens, he has completed a historic season, but his winning mentality will make him to keep fighting until the end. His teammate Ryusei Yamanaka travels to Malaysia after a positive weekend in Buriram. The Japanese rider was among the strongest during all the sessions and was able to finish the race in the top 10. Yamanaka is confident that he can make a good performance in the last three races of the season and salute Gaviota GASGAS Aspar with a good feeling. His first chance comes this weekend and he aims to be competitive again from the first practice to fight for a good result in the race.
David Alonso: “We still have three races to finish the season and two of them are on unknown tracks for me. These circuits are different from the European tracks, they are very wide and long and it will be interesting to see how we adapt to them to be able to fight for big goals. Although we have already won the ‘Rookie of the year’ title, we want to keep working to stay among the best. We will try to have a good weekend and be in the front group, which is where you learn the most.”
Ryusei Yamanaka: “I come to Malaysia with the confidence of having been strong last weekend in Thailand, although the race did not go as well as we wanted. In Malaysia I want to fight for the podium again, that will be the goal. I will focus on working for the race, as in the previous weekends, to enjoy these last GPs.”
