The champion aims to keep breaking records

CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider David Alonso has already won the Moto3 World Championship and will now seek to end the season as the rider with most victories in a year

The 2024 season is not over yet, but Moto3 already knows its champion: CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider David Alonso. The Colombian sealed the title in the lightweight category after winning in Japan and now wants to continue making history to close a record-breaking year. So far this season, Alonso has achieved ten victories. If he adds one more win, he will become the rider with most victories in Moto3 in a season, ahead of Joan Mir’s 10 wins in 2017. He also has the chance to become the rider with most wins in a single season in the history of the lightweight category if he exceeds Valentino Rossi’s eleven wins in 1997. Alonso still has four more GPs to continue breaking records before making the jump to Moto2. The first stop in this final stretch is the Australian GP. Alonso has only competed once at Phillip Island and was unable to finish the race. Rain and wind marked last year's Moto3 race. With these difficult conditions, the Colombian crashed on the second lap and, although he was able to recover the bike to get back on track, he ended up entering the garages and retiring from the race.

His teammate Joel Esteban is travelling to Australia for the first time with his mind set on continuing to grow in Moto3. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has finished the last two races in the points and will fight to do so again in Phillip Island. With four races left in the season, the Spanish wants to consolidate the progress made in the last few GPs and finish the year fighting constantly with the leading group.

David Alonso: “We arrive in Australia after having fulfilled my dream of becoming world champion. It will be a weekend without the pressure of the championship, but I will fight to try to equal Valentino Rossi’s victories. I want to enjoy the track, the fast corners, the weather… Last year it was rainy and windy and we were not fast in those conditions. We will try to have a great weekend, without lowering the intensity.”

Joel Esteban: “The second triple-header of the season starts now and, once again, new tracks for me are coming. I have always loved the Phillip Island circuit, when I saw it on TV, and now this weekend I will finally race there. The objective will be no other than to enjoy riding, because that is when the good results come. I am going to activate the ‘sponge mode’ to always learn and gather as much information as possible to improve in each outing on the track.”
