The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider will start the Moto3 race from the third row of the grid
The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider Máximo Quiles will start tomorrow's German Grand Prix race from seventh position, while his teammate Dennis Foggia will start from twenty-fourth. Rain marked the two Moto3 qualifying sessions at Sachsenring, and Q2 was interrupted by one of the many crashes that occurred. Quiles, who yesterday secured direct entry into Q2, showed great consistency and rode confidently. The Moto3 rookie tried to improve his time on the last lap, but a yellow flag due to another rider's crash prevented him from qualifying for the first two rows of the grid. Despite this, he was only three tenths off pole position, and his 1:35.356 puts him on the third row, a favourable position for Sunday's race. On the other hand, his teammate Dennis Foggia was unable to take that extra step in Q1 that would have allowed him to finish in the top four of the standings to move on to Q2. With a time of 1:39.155, he was far from the cut-off and tomorrow he will face the German Grand Prix race focused on moving up positions to reach, at least, the points zone.
The most skilful rider in the rain at Sachsenring was Britain's Scott Ogden, who secured his first pole position in the Moto3 World Championship. David Almansa, in second place, was 42 thousandths of a second away from leading the starting grid for the first time, while Italy's Guido Pini was third. Moto3 leader José Antonio Rueda was relegated to twelfth position, while his main rival and teammate Álvaro Carpe will start fifth despite suffering a crash.
7th Máximo Quiles 1:35.356: “I'm very happy because I was competitive despite the rainy conditions. In qualifying, I wasn't able to get many references, I only had one far away and maybe it would have helped me to have a few more. We were all very close, we finished within three tenths off the pole position. I was going very fast on the last lap, but there was a yellow flag and I didn't want to take any risks. They would have taken away my lap and I would have risked crashing. We are in a good position for tomorrow and we will give it our all whatever the conditions.”
24th Dennis Foggia 1:39.155: “Today I didn't feel confident with the bike because of the track conditions. It wasn't an easy day with the rain, I tried to improve little by little, but we were far off in Q1. Tomorrow we'll have to make up a lot of positions. We'll see what the conditions are like for the race and try to do our best.”
