David Alonso and Ryusei Yamanaka have been two of the fifteen riders who have taken part in the test day at the Spanish track
The riders in the Moto3 category have been able to complete a day of testing in Jerez, after the end of the Spanish Grand Prix, which will help the teams in the next race weeks. Turkish Deniz Öncü, who could not get past ninth position on Sunday, has been the fastest rider in the two sessions in which he has participated and has set a best time of 1:45.263. Due to the rise in temperature throughout the day, the best session for most of the riders was the first, in which the Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso finished second, six tenths off Öncü, and the Spaniard Xavi Artigas has been third. The next challenge for the small category riders will be the weekend of May 14, at the French Grand Prix.
The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar closed the Jerez test satisfied with the progress shown by its two riders, David Alonso and Ryusei Yamanaka. The Colombian, who faced the test day with the good taste of the podium, was second again, this time behind Turkish Deniz Öncü. Alonso has completed a total of 45 laps between the three sessions of the day, with a best time of 1:45.905 that he has achieved in the morning. The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider has fulfilled his main objective of the day, to work alone to be able to better prepare for the next races.
His teammate Ryusei Yamanaka was one of the strongest riders in the Spanish Grand Prix and only a gear lever problem prevented him from shining in the race. The Japanese rider set the fastest lap in the Grand Prix and today he has continued working on the basis of last week to improve the set-up of the bike and fight again for a great result in France. Yamanaka and his team have found some positive improvements in a test in which they finished seventh, one second off the fastest time, after 60 laps.
2nd David Alonso 1:45.905 (+0.642, 45 laps): “It has been a very positive test. We had a clear objective, which was “forbidden to ride with people”. That was the message of this test, that I did all my laps without a slipstream or a reference, alone, and I have achieved that. I thought it was going to take us a bit more, but it turned out better than expected because we finish second. It is very important for us because we have taken a big step forward riding alone, one of the main pending issues for the following races. We think it will help us a lot."
6th Ryusei Yamanaka 1:46.350 (+1.087, 60 laps): “We have had a day of testing in Jerez in which we have worked a lot with used tyres and testing different bike settings. We have found positive aspects, but in the last two sessions of the day the wind has bothered us a bit. These are conditions that I don't like very much, but I have been able to complete more than thirty laps like this and it will be good for us for the future”.
