Foggia and Esteban were unable to finish the race at the Grand Prix of Qatar after crashing out when both were moving up positions
The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team did not have the desired ending at the Grand Prix of Qatar despite the good feelings of its riders. Dennis Foggia and Joel Esteban maintained a good pace from the first laps and made up several positions to try and score as many points as possible. However, they did not finish the Lusail race, having both suffered two crashes at different moments of the race. Dennis Foggia went from strength to strength and climbed positions from thirteenth to sixth in just three laps. The Italian rider felt very comfortable and fought with the leading riders to stay in the front group. Foggia had a touch with another rider and crashed when he had just set the fastest lap of the race. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider did not have luck on his side in a race that ended with Ángel Piqueras winning by a few thousandths of a second, making him the new championship leader. Taiyo Furusato and Ryusei Yamanaka completed the podium.
Joel Esteban only needed four laps to reach the points positions after starting from twenty-first place. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider showed great pace from the opening laps despite having had a day less practice than the other riders in the class and moved up more than ten positions in just five laps. Esteban managed tyre wear well in a long race, although an unfortunate crash in the second corner, when he was seventh, prevented him from achieving one of his best results in the category.
Dennis Foggia (DNF): “It's a pity to finish the race like this, after having made up six positions in just three laps and having set the fastest lap of the race so far. I was feeling good; the crash was a shame, but I'd rather have a race like this, taking a chance with the best, and crash, than race in the back of the pack. I want to thank the team for everything they've done on these days to give me a bike I can fight with today.”
Joel Esteban (DNF): “We ended the weekend with a result that's not what we wanted, unfortunately, because the feeling was good. If we had gotten a better grid position yesterday, with the pace I had at the start, I could have held my own with the guys in front and, at the end, with worn tyres, I could have fought with them. I arrived here with one day less of activity on track compared to the others, I had to go straight to Q1 and it's a bit more difficult because I've done fewer laps than my rivals. In any case, I'm satisfied because I saw that I could have been fighting with them.”
