The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider took his first World Championship pole position in just two races
CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar rider Máximo Quiles needed just two grand prix races to take his maiden Moto3 World Championship pole position. The Spanish rider, who returned to competition this weekend after his injury, showed great physical shape and was the most outstanding rider of the day. Quiles repeats on the front row of the grid, after having been second in his debut at the Grand Prix of the Americas, but this time he will do it from pole position. The Spaniard was 89 thousandths of a second ahead of fellow rookie Guido Pini. Joel Kelso will complete the front row, also less than a tenth of a second off the reference time.
The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar rider continues to make great strides and this Saturday he worked on maintaining a good pace ahead of tomorrow's race, after securing his direct passage to Q2 yesterday. In this afternoon's qualifying, Quiles already set the reference time in his first pass through the finish line and didn’t left the first place. The Spaniard improved his own time and was the only rider to go under 1:40 in Le Mans qualifying. With a time of 1:39.947, he will start tomorrow's French Grand Prix race from the front of the grid.
Dennis Foggia, on the other hand, did not have the expected result in Moto3 qualifying. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar rider has had a very good feeling throughout the weekend and has been in the top ten in all the sessions so far. This Saturday, with track conditions very different to those of the previous day, the Italian rider continued to work on his approach to the race since yesterday, like his teammate, he also got a direct pass to Q2. In the afternoon, the Italian tried to do a good lap to stay in the first positions of the grid, but his 1:40.763 relegated him to fifteenth position and tomorrow he will start from the fifth row of the grid.
1st Máximo Quiles 1:39.947: “It was a great lap, I am very happy with the result. I was very excited because I haven't been able to do two grands prix in a row yet. After my debut came the injury, and this weekend I took it easy because I had only competed in Austin. I felt comfortable very early and I wanted to get everything out in the qualifying. The priority is to find a good pace and that's what we've been trying to do since the first day. It's going very well and I hope to continue like this in the next races. Tomorrow I want to have fun on the bike, it's my first season but we'll go out to do the best we can because I'm in this privileged position.”
15th Dennis Foggia 1:40.763 (+0.816): “It was a pity because I couldn't do a clean lap because I met several riders on the track and that really affected my qualifying. I couldn't improve my time, but the positive thing is that I feel comfortable with the bike. Tomorrow I will try to do a good race, it will probably be in a group, so the start will be important to move up positions from the beginning.”
