Quiles' sixth podium slips away on the penultimate lap

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider finished fourth in Austria after leading for much of the race

Máximo Quiles completed one of his best races in Moto3. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider led for much of the Austrian Grand Prix and showed a maturity on par with the most experienced riders. The rookie crossed the finish line in fourth place after losing his podium position following a collision on the penultimate lap. His teammate Dennis Foggia finished seventh, although he was relegated to thirteenth place after failing to complete the long lap penalty. The victory at the Red Bull Ring went to Ángel Piqueras, who had not been on the podium since the Spanish Grand Prix in April. His teammate Ryusei Yamanaka finished second, while David Muñoz finished third. Moto3 leader José Antonio Rueda managed to save some points and climbed back up to fifth place.

The Moto3 race at the Austrian Grand Prix promised a great show for the fans. The riders in the lighweight category kicked off an exciting Sunday of racing, with Máximo Quiles one of the main protagonists. The rookie made a great start from the second row of the grid to take the lead after the first lap. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider managed a difficult race perfectly and set his own pace to reduce the group as much as possible. Quiles fell to third position, but he was able to make up for his mistake and regain the lead. Halfway through the race, the Spaniard set his own pace again to fight for another podium finish. A collision in the penultimate corner forced Quiles and another rider off the track. This meant he lost his chance of securing his sixth podium finish of the year, finishing in fourth place, although only 79 thousandths of a second behind the third-placed rider. Meanwhile, Dennis Foggia remained in the top 5 in the early laps. He subsequently fell out of the leading group, forcing the Italian to face this new scenario with a different strategy. Foggia managed to lead the second group, although in the final laps he lost a few positions, which he was able to recover until crossing the finish line in fourth place. However, a penalty for not completing the long lap in time relegated him to thirteenth position.

4th Máximo Quiles (+0.250): “The race didn't end the way I wanted it to because I was pushed off the track and couldn't make up enough places. Apart from that, I'm happy with the race. I was better than the rest and very competitive. I was really disappointed to finish like that, but in Hungary I'll give it my all again to get back on the podium.”

12+1 Dennis Foggia (+4.691): “It was a difficult race and I gave it my all until the end. I tried to start strong and stay in the top positions, but I lacked a bit of acceleration. In the end, I finished seventh, although with the penalty I dropped to thirteenth position. I'll take the positives and the fact that we were in the top 10. Thanks to the team for all their work, I'm looking forward to getting to Hungary and continuing to work together.”
