Quiles saves a difficult Saturday and secures a place in the top 10

The Spanish rider will start the race from the third row of the grid, while Dennis Foggia will start from the fifth after the CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team duo made it through Q1 at Mugello

Máximo Quiles and Dennis Foggia faced a challenging Saturday in the high temperatures at the Mugello circuit. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team riders completed qualifying with Máximo Quiles finishing eighth and Dennis Foggia fifteenth, after both had to go through Q1 and came through it with good feelings. Rookie Álvaro Carpe took pole position in Moto3 ahead of his teammate José Antonio Rueda, who was second. Scott Ogden will accompany the Spanish riders on the front row of the grid.

This morning's free practice allowed the CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team riders to plan their strategy for the Italian Grand Prix, where the right choice of tyres and taking advantage of the slipstream will be some of the most important aspects to consider. Both Foggia and Quiles set their best times of the weekend this morning, with the Spaniard also lapping under 1:56. In the afternoon, both riders had to compete in Q1 after failing to qualify directly for Q2 yesterday. Máximo Quiles quickly set his best lap, which worked in his favour as he suffered a crash in the final minutes. Despite this, he was the fastest and qualified for Q2 alongside his teammate, who was fourth. In Q2, Quiles was able to take to the track after the team worked quickly to get the bike ready. The Moto3 rookie was unable to set a time on his first outing on the track as he exceeded the track limits. On his last attempt, he did not want to take any risks and rode alone to set a time of 1:55.611, which placed him in eighth position on the third row. His teammate Dennis Foggia was unable to achieve a perfect lap at one of his favourite circuits. His 1:56.135 only allowed him to finish fifteenth, and although this result does not reflect the Italian's hard work, he will have to make a good start tomorrow to catch up with the leaders.

8th Máximo Quiles 1:55.611 (+0.878): “I'm happy with the result after how the day went. Q1 was a bit complicated for us because I did one lap and then I crashed. It was all very fast and a bit stressful. In Q2, the first flying lap after the crash, I started very strong and ready to give it my all. Another rider got in my way and I couldn't do the fast lap. It was difficult because I got a slipstream, but all the riders braked and I was left on my own, so I had to push on. I wanted to play it safe and I couldn't get my fast lap. I think I could have fought for pole, but I didn't want to take any chances and we fought with the weapons we had.”

15th Dennis Foggia 1:56.135 (+1.402): “It was a difficult qualifying session. I wasn't able to squeeze out my full potential, although I was able to ride faster than this morning. I made it through to Q2 but I didn't manage to set the time I would have liked. I'm a little annoyed with the final result because I think we could have fought for a better starting position for tomorrow. The race will be in a group, we'll have to be smart and get the gear ratio right because there will be a lot of slipstreaming and it will be important to be able to take advantage of it.”
