Quiles fights hard and secures third row at Motegi

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider set the eighth fastest time in qualifying, four tenths off pole position

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders completed a very fast qualifying session at Motegi. Máximo Quiles and Dennis Foggia achieved their best times of the weekend, finishing Saturday in eighth and tenth place respectively. This means that the Spaniard will start the race from the third row, but his teammate will have to start from the back of the grid after receiving a penalty. On the front row, José Antonio Ruede secured his fifth pole position of the season, followed by Valentín Perrone and Joel Kelso.

Fans at the Japanese Grand Prix witnessed further progress from the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders. Both Máximo Quiles and Dennis Foggia worked on their approach to Sunday's race during this morning's free practice. Both riders finished in the top 10, with Quiles in fifth place despite suffering a crash. With Q2 secured, both riders took to the track in the afternoon with clear ideas and ready to continue progressing to qualify for the top spots on the starting grid. Quiles continued to improve his times and rode alone to gain confidence on the Japanese track. The rookie in the lightweight category gave his best until the final minutes, when he completed his best lap. Thanks to a time of 1:55.626, the Spaniard will start the race from eighth place, four tenths off pole position. Dennis Foggia also had to give his all to secure a good result. The Italian was able to lap more than half a second faster than the previous day and, aware of the high competitiveness of all the riders during qualifying, he made the most of every second of the session. Foggia set his best time on the last lap: a 1:55.444 that put him in tenth position. However, the penalty he received on Saturday for riding slowly in some sectors will force him to fight his way up from the back of the starting grid.

8th Máximo Quiles 1:55.262 (+0.436): “I'm happy with the final result, although we couldn’t follow our strategy. I started a bit late because I wasn't ready on time, so I was more nervous. In qualifying, I tried to concentrate and rode alone to set a good time. My pace is good and tomorrow I feel strong to fight and give it my all.”

10th Dennis Foggia 1:55.444 (+0.618): "I improved my time quite a bit this morning compared to Friday. Obviously, in qualifying we needed to do a perfect lap, but I'm happy with the time I set. I rode two seconds faster than in my last Moto3 race here, in which I finished on the podium. The level is very high. We have the potential to have a good race."
