Quiles ends in seventh a difficult race in Le Mans

His CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team team-mate Dennis Foggia just missed out on a top ten finish

Sunday's race at the French Grand Prix was a very different scenario compared to the previous days. The rain in the morning completely changed the approach to the race, although it was declared dry. José Antonio Rueda was the winner of the weekend after an incident in the last corner between Joel Kelso and David Muñoz, in which the Spaniard left the Australian with no chance to fight for the victory. In the end, and although Muñoz had entered the finish line ahead, a penalty for this action left him third, just behind Kelso. Ángel Piqueras, second in the World Championship, suffered a crash that allowed Rueda to increase his lead in the overall standings.

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders went from strength to strength in difficult conditions in which Máximo Quiles was not comfortable, although he finally managed to finish seventh. Dennis Foggia moved up to the top ten, coming from fifteenth on the grid. Quiles started the race from pole position, although in the first laps he lost some places after not finding the best feeling on the track. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider kept up the pace and remained in the front group, fighting with much more experienced rivals to try to return to the top 5. Halfway through the race and with the track dry, Quiles made up ground on the leading group again and took seventh place. His teammate Dennis Foggia focused on moving up positions as he started from the fifth row of the grid. In the final laps the Italian maintained a strong pace and tried to reach the top 10, but in the end he finished eleventh.

7th Máximo Quiles (+6.521): “At the beginning I didn't have a good feeling, especially with the rear tyre. As time went by, I started to recover, but I was already far behind. I worked to come back, but I didn't have enough time. I was fighting with another rider and that prevented me from reaching the top 5, because at that moment I had a similar pace to the leading riders. I'm happy because we gained more experience and it will help us to apply it in the next races.”

11th Dennis Foggia (+8.574): “The starting position penalised us but, in the race, I was able to maintain a good pace. After the first few laps I felt very comfortable and I was fast. In the next race we will try to be further ahead, because today's result doesn't correspond to our real level. I'll keep the positive: the important thing, however, is that we were very fast. I want to thank the team for all their work.”
