The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider finished fifth in a great first race in Moto3, while his team-mate crossed the line in seventh position
Máximo Quiles did not disappoint in his Moto3 World Championship debut, finishing fifth. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider started the race from second place on the grid and made a good start, leading into the first corner. Quiles stayed in the front group and occupied the podium positions during the first laps. The rookie, who is only 17 years old, did not give up and fought against his more experienced rivals, riding faster than the race leader at some points. After losing a few places, Quiles managed the times very well and fought for fourth position in a thrilling last lap. Finally, he finished fifth in the Grand Prix of the Americas, an outstanding result in a race in which José Antonio Rueda was the winner, accompanied on the podium by team-mates Joel Kelso and Matteo Bertelle.
Foggia completed a positive weekend in Austin. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider held on to fifth position after the lights went out and concentrated on staying in the leading group. With the first few laps completed Foggia lost a few places and tried to stay within the top ten of the standings. In the last third of the race, the Italian increased his pace and moved up to seventh place, just short of equalling his best result with the team.
5th Máximo Quiles (+5.522): “I was looking forward to start strong and see what could happen. I really enjoyed that first lap and the rest of the race. I'm very happy, although it has been difficult because it's very different from the previous categories. Tyre wear is more noticeable and everything is more complicated. I lacked a bit of experience, but we are improving little by little. On the last lap I was at the limit with the tyre, I tried to fight for the fourth position, but I couldn't in the end. A fifth place with all the veterans is a very good goal. Finishing my first race was a dream come true.”
7th Dennis Foggia (+21.815): “It was a positive weekend. We had done a good qualifying and we built up the weekend well. I was a little bit off to be in contention for the podium or the win. We made up positions and finished seventh. We know our potential and we have to go one step further to be at the front. Thanks to the team for the work done, now it's time to analyse everything well to take that step forward in Qatar.”
