Quiles battles for a front row spot decided by thousandths

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider finished sixth in a closely contested qualifying session, while his teammate Dennis Foggia was ninth

The second day of the Dutch Grand Prix saw one of the closest battles for pole position this season. The Moto3 riders had to push hard in a qualifying session in which José Antonio Rueda secured his fourth pole position of 2025. His teammate Álvaro Carpe finished second and David Almansa third, both 41 and 66 thousandths behind the reference time respectively. Máximo Quiles was sixth, unable to improve his time in the final minutes due to heavy traffic on the track, while Dennis Foggia finished ninth, and they will start from the second and third rows of the grid respectively.

The Moto3 riders took advantage of this morning's free practice to improve the set-up of their bikes in dry conditions. The lightweight category has had the fewest opportunities to ride in these conditions, so it was essential to approach the afternoon qualifying  with the best possible guarantees. In the morning session both CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders finished in the top 10, with Máximo Quiles riding half a second faster than the previous day. The Spanish rider improved his feeling and approached the afternoon's Q1 ready to beat it again, as he had done in the two previous Grand Prix weekends. Quiles was once again the fastest and, in Q2, continued to improve his times. The Spaniard was in the top 3 for most of the session, but the high number of riders on the track prevented him from improving his time as he fought for the front row. Finally, his 1:40.154 put him in sixth place. His teammate Dennis Foggia, who secured direct entry into Q2 yesterday, also achieved his best times of the weekend on Saturday afternoon. The Italian rider showed great confidence in his ability to fight for the front positions on the grid, closing the gap on the fastest riders and, in a final effort, setting the ninth fastest time of 1:40.343. On Sunday, both riders will tackle the tenth race of the year in good spirits and determined to repeat the good results of the last round.

6th Máximo Quiles 1:40.154 (+0.397): “We managed to get through to Q2 and improved our riding feelings. I was very strong on my fast lap, but I came across another rider and lost a few tenths that would have put me further ahead. I tried again, but I was riding alone and it was a bit more complicated. I'm satisfied with the result; the second row is fine for trying to be at the front tomorrow.”

9th Dennis Foggia 1:40.343 (+0.586): “It was a shame because it was a very competitive qualifying session. I started the last lap improving my time, but I couldn't put together a perfect one because there were so many riders on the track. Tomorrow we'll start from the third row, although we could have achieved a time to be in the second row. I feel good with the bike and I think we can do very well in the race. Thanks to everyone, we're doing a great job.”
