Quiles arrives in Portugal as a strong contender for the runner-up spot

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider returns to Europe to compete in the last two races of the season

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team faces the last double-header of the season with the hope of continuing to achieve great results. Máximo Quiles remains as ambitious as ever and is determined to return to the podium in Portimao, something he has not achieved since the Japanese Grand Prix. The Spanish rider finished seventh in the last race, held in Malaysia, which mathematically confirmed him as the Moto3 rookie of the year. At just 17 years old and in only 16 races (he missed four of them at the beginning of this year), Quiles has already achieved eight podiums, including two victories, and two pole positions. With two races left to go, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider is hungry for more and will be looking to add to this list at the Portuguese and Valencia Grand Prix. On the other side of the garage, the team will once again have in its ranks Dennis Foggia, who has now recovered after missing the last two races. The Italian wants to return to the top positions on a circuit where he has been on the podium several times (he was second in 2020 and 2021). With 94 points, he is currently fourteenth in the standings.

Máximo Quiles achieved one of his major goals for this year in Malaysia, but he still has one challenge left to fight for: to become the Moto3 runner-up. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider, who is third in the overall standings, has seen his gap to Ángel Piqueras increase to fourteen points after the Spaniard finished on the podium at Sepang. Piqueras has a total of 251 points, while Quiles has 237. Both are now the only two contenders for the runner-up spot because David Muñoz, the other rider with a mathematical chance of reaching the top three, is already 54 points behind Piqueras. Muñoz’s return date has not been confirmed, and he is still recovering from injury, as is world champion José Antonio Rueda, who suffered a tough crash with Noah Dettwiler just before the start of the previous race.

Máximo Quiles: “We arrive in Portugal feeling very motivated. The last few races didn't go as we wanted, so we're really keen to finish on a high note. Winning the Rookie of the Year title is great, and I'm very happy about that, even though I finished the race feeling a little frustrated with the result. Now we'll try to fight for the runner-up spot because we have a chance, but the main goal is to enjoy the last two races. I no longer have the pressure of being the best rookie; if we can end in second, it will be great, but I want to finish the year on a high note and enjoy myself with the team.”

Dennis Foggia: “    .”
