Quiles and Foggia back to work with a solid top 5

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders finished fourth and fifth respectively on the first day of practice sessions in Austria

Competition officially returned on Friday after a long summer break for the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders. Máximo Quiles and Dennis Foggia got off to a good start in the Austrian Grand Prix and were two of the most competitive riders of the day, securing direct entry into tomorrow's Q2 after finishing in fourth and fifth place respectively. Ahead of them, Ángel Piqueras set the pace on Friday, followed by Valentín Perrone and Ryusei Yamanaka, one and three tenths behind the leader. Championship leader José Antonio Rueda was seventh, while third-placed Álvaro Carpe was fourteenth.

The Moto3 World Championship heard the engines roar again at the Red Bull Ring circuit after a three-week break from competition. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders proved to be in top form at the start of the second half of the season. Good track conditions allowed the riders in the small category to tackle this morning's free practice with determination. This enabled Quiles and Foggia to finish in the top 10 despite the high temperatures, which were around 30 degrees. In the afternoon session, the riders took to the track determined to secure a place in Q2 as quickly as possible and managed to lead the standings. After a pit stop, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team duo returned to the track to fight for the top positions in the standings. Quiles remained in the top positions and took advantage of his experience on the Austrian circuit to perfect the set-up for tomorrow's qualifying. With a time of 1:40.341, the Spaniard was four tenths of a second off the reference time, in fourth position. His teammate Dennis Foggia also had a very good feeling this afternoon and worked hard to close the gap on his rivals. The veteran Moto3 rider was momentarily in Q1 positions, but he was able to turn the situation around to set his best time in the final minutes: a 1:40.438 that placed him just behind his teammate in fifth. This means that both riders will be able to fight for the top positions on the starting grid by qualifying directly for Q2.

4th Máximo Quiles 1:40.341 (+0.423): “I'm very happy with this first day in Austria. I have a good feeling overall and I feel very strong in the braking. We are doing a good job and we are in Q2, although there are things to improve. This afternoon I will work with the team and tomorrow I will give my best to take that small step forward we need to fight for a good position on the starting grid.”

5th Dennis Foggia 1:40.438 (+0.520): “I am happy with how we have started the weekend. The goal was to be in the top five and get into Q2, and we've achieved that. We've taken another step forward and tomorrow it will be important to get a good position in the front rows. I'm happy with the progress we've made over the last few months and I've continued to work hard during the summer break. Thanks to the team for all the work they're doing, tomorrow we'll give it our all in qualifying.”
