Positive debut for Alonso in India

The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider closes the first day of action at the Buddh International Circuit in fourth position

Moto3 riders have had the honour of opening the first Indian Grand Prix in the history of the World Championship. Among them, Collin Veijer has been the fastest at the end of the first day of action. In the afternoon, the Dutch rider has beaten his own lap up to four times and has finished with a best time of 1:59.556, which makes him the only rider to go under the two minutes, together with Jaume Masià, who has ended second. The World Championship leader, Dani Holgado, has suffered a small mechanical issue in the first practice and has not been able to ride as much as his rivals. However, in the second practice he has quickly improved his time and has closed his debut in India within the positions that give provisional access to Q2. On a day in which the sessions have been a bit longer than usual to make the adaptation to the new track easier, the small category riders have tried to make the most of all the laps in order to know the track and study the key points. Tomorrow they will have another opportunity to analyse the Buddh International Circuit in the last practice session before the fight for pole starts.

Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso has ended the first day in India in fourth position. The Colombian has suffered a small incident at the end of the first practice and another at the start of the second session. Despite this, Alonso has been able to get a great lap in the last minutes of the day and has finished just six tenths off the best time. Alonso will be looking forward to keep improving his feeling in tomorrow's session in order to stay in the positions that give direct access to Q2. His teammate Ryusei Yamanaka has started the Indian Grand Prix on a good note. The Japanese rider had finished eighteenth in the morning and was enjoying the track, but in the second session he has been disturbed by other riders when he was coming fast and he has not been able to finish in a better position.

4th David Alonso 2:00.195 (+0.629): “It's a very fun track. It has a lot of ups and downs that I like, but there are also some turns where we still have to find the line. I think we can go fast here. We have the speed and we are competitive on one lap. Tomorrow we will try to keep working on our pace in order to be prepared for the race.”

25th Ryusei Yamanaka 2:01.688 (+2.122): “I have enjoyed riding on this circuit. It has all kinds of corners, a long straight... In the afternoon I have not felt comfortable because in my last run the other riders have started to cut. I was going fast but I have not been able to finish higher.”
