Máximo Quiles puts up a fight in his world championship debut

The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider made a brilliant start to the Grand Prix of the Americas and was just half a second off the fastest rider

Máximo Quiles put up a good fight on his first day on the Moto3 world championship grid. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider was second, just four tenths of a second off the fastest rider, and surprised everyone present in COTA on a day in which rain was the main protagonist. The riders in the small category had to adapt to the wet conditions without risking too much to avoid a crash. Matteo Bertelle continues to be one of the most consistent riders and once again topped the timesheets this Friday. The Italian was closely followed by Máximo Quiles, second, and with Scott Ogden in third. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider was focused on getting a good feeling and adapting to the team. Quiles has shown great talent and has gone from strength to strength securing a direct pass to Q2 on Saturday.

Dennis Foggia, on the other hand, had a difficult start. The Italian rider did not have a good feeling in the wet in the two sessions held today. Foggia worked during the free practice to improve his set-up for the afternoon timed practice session in order to secure his place in Q2. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider improved his lap times and set his best time on the penultimate lap, placing him in twenty-fifth position. He will have to go through Q1 tomorrow.

2nd Máximo Quiles 2:24.181 (+0.477): “It was all very new for me, I had very little experience with this bike and even less in the rain and at this circuit, but I'm happy because I was fast and I have a good feeling. I went out to enjoy myself, as if it wasn't a training session, as if it was a test even. In the end, I'm a bit cold, I've had two races less than the rest, and they are warmer. I enjoyed myself on the bike and I kept learning. I was a bit nervous going out and in the morning the objective was more to adapt to the bike. In the afternoon I pushed a bit harder. Tomorrow in the dry it will be a different story, but I'll keep giving my best.”

25th Dennis Foggia 2:28.046 (+4.342): “It wasn't an easy day. The track conditions were tricky and I didn't feel comfortable. Tomorrow we will go through Q1, but the goal is still to be in Q2 to get a good starting position for the race.”
