Learning day for the CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team at Mugello

Dennis Foggia and Máximo Quiles finished fifteenth and eighteenth respectively at the start of the first double-header of the season

The Italian Grand Prix kicked off on Friday under high temperatures at Mugello. On this occasion, the Moto3 classification presented a different scenario than usual: David Almansa was the fastest in the small category, closely followed by Taiyo Furusato and Ryusei Yamanaka. Moto3 leader José Antonio Rueda was tenth, just behind his main rival, Ángel Piqueras. Dennis Foggia and Máximo Quiles did not end this first day as expected, as they were unable to qualify directly for Q2. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team riders finished fifteenth and eighteenth, respectively, and tomorrow they will have to give their best to fight for the front positions on the starting grid.

The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team riders started the morning feeling good and occupying the top positions on the table. Foggia and Quiles took advantage of the free practice to start fine-tuning their set-up for this weekend, with the Italian securing a place in the top 10. In the afternoon session, Dennis Foggia wanted to go one step further in his home grand prix and improved his morning times by more than half a second. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider remained in the top 14 for most of the session, although in the final minutes he dropped to 15th position with a time of 1:56.305, meaning that tomorrow he will have to go through Q1 to secure a good starting position. Máximo Quiles, meanwhile, also significantly improved his times in the afternoon session. The Moto3 rookie, who is coming off two consecutive podium finishes, is showing great form in his fifth grand prix. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider, however, was unable to put together an optimal lap that would have allowed him to remain among the fastest in the category. For this reason, his 1:56.411 placed him in eighteenth place, forcing him to compete in Q1 on Saturday.

15th Dennis Foggia 1:56.305 (+0.770): “It was a difficult day. Tomorrow we will have to go through Q1, so it will be important to work on improving in the morning free practice session. I was fast in many parts of the track, but I lost a lot in a couple of corners. It's strange, because I've always been strong on this circuit. Tomorrow we have to go all out and find a set-up that allows me to be more comfortable. We'll give it our all and enjoy it as much as we can.”

18th Máximo Quiles 1:56.411 (+0.876): “Today I made a mistake with the strategy and I couldn't do a good lap. I'm angry with myself for that, as we didn't manage to qualify for Q2 tomorrow. This afternoon I will analyse with the team what happened to improve tomorrow and get a good starting position for the race.”
