Máximo Quiles and Dennis Foggia finished a tight qualifying session in ninth and twelfth position respectively
The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team duo competed in a chaotic qualifying session at Misano. Máximo Quiles set the ninth fastest time, while Dennis Foggia was twelfth in a session marked by crashes from other riders. Argentine Valentín Perrone secured his second Moto3 pole position and will lead a front row that was decided by thousandths. Joel Kelso and Jacob Roulstone will accompany him in second and third place respectively.
CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team started the second day of the San Marino Grand Prix on a high note. Both riders worked on their race strategy during this morning's free practice and finished in the top five of the standings with clear ideas for the qualifying. In the afternoon, Quiles and Foggia went straight into action in Q2 to fight for the top positions on the starting grid. Quiles took to the track with a clear goal, although another rider's crash almost prevented him from continuing. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider managed to avoid him and rode alone to continue improving his times. His 1:40.605 on the penultimate lap was his best time of the weekend and placed him in ninth position, just two tenths of a second off pole position. His teammate Dennis Foggia also had to work hard to move up the field in a very tight qualifying session that saw 11 riders within half a second of each other. The Italian, who was unable to improve on his time from this morning, had to dodge numerous riders on the track, which made it difficult to complete a good lap. Foggia also set his best time on the penultimate lap: a 1:40.963, which left him in twelfth place given the high competitiveness of all his rivals.
9th Máximo Quiles 1:40.605 (+0.277): “I had a good feeling in today's qualifying session, even though it was a bit chaotic. I have good pace, but crashes by other riders prevented me from improving my time. It was difficult to find a good slipstream to set a fast time, so I decided to ride alone. I'm very happy because I've regained my confidence riding this way. We'll see how the race goes tomorrow, but I'm confident I can be in the front group and fight.”
12th Dennis Foggia 1:40.963 (+0.635): “There was quite a bit of chaos in today's qualifying. We are all very close together and I wasn't able to get a better position, although I was fast in free practice this morning. We will continue working to get the bike perfect and have a good race. Our goal is to fight for the podium and I think we can do it.”
