David Alonso and Ryusei Yamanaka look forward to the last European Grand Prix before the flyaway races
The Moto3 World Championship lands in San Marino for the last European race before travelling to Asia. Dani Holgado faces another weekend at the top of the standings, although with a smaller advantage after the CatalanGP, where he couldn't score any points. The Spanish rider now has a gap of 13 points over Ayumu Sasaki and more than 30 over Jaume Masià, Deniz Öncü and Iván Ortolá, who have moved closer to Holgado in the fight for the title. A little further back (46 points behind) is Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso, who arrives in Misano after an impressive victory at the Circuit de Barcelona - Catalunya.
A few days after a historic weekend in Barcelona, Gaviota GASGAS Aspar is ready to give its all at the San Marino Grand Prix. David Alonso returns to a track where he made his World Championship debut in 2021 as a substitute rider. Two years later, Alonso arrives as a permanent rider and placed sixth in the overall standings, just nine points off the top five. The Colombian faces the Grand Prix with confidence after helping the GASGAS Aspar Team achieve a historic double win in Barcelona with his second World Championship victory. His teammate, Ryusei Yamanaka, competes in Misano with the aim of keeping up his progression. In 2022, the Japanese rider started the race from fourth on the grid, so he will be looking to get back to a good grid position and to be able to compete at a high level on Sunday.
David Alonso: “We are in good shape. We have taken two wins in the last three Grands Prix and we want to keep fighting for the front positions. This weekend we race at Misano, a circuit I know and where I made my debut in the World Championship, so I want to keep growing in order to get closer to the top riders.”
Ryusei Yamanaka: “We travel to Misano focused on performing well. It is the second Grand Prix in a row and we will try to have a better race. We need to think about a good strategy for the practice and qualifying sessions in order to be better prepared for Sunday.”
