Fourth row on the grid for Yamanaka

Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider will start the Malaysian Grand Prix from twelfth position. David Alonso has suffered two crashes and will begin from 21st

Jaume Masià has taken pole position after setting the new track record in the Malaysian Grand Prix. The World Championship leader has stopped the clock with a time of 2:10.846, which has beaten the best lap of the category in Sepang, set by Dani Holgado in today's last practice. Masià has been almost a second faster than Collin Veijer and Matteo Bertelle, who complete the front row of the grid. With his sixth pole position of the season, the Spanish rider will have a good chance to increase his lead, as his title rivals will start from behind. Ayumu Sasaki will begin from fifth, while Dani Holgado and David Alonso will start from fifteenth and twenty-first, respectively. After leading yesterday's practice sessions and taking pole position with authority, Jaume Masià heads into tomorrow's race as the favourite to achieve victory.

Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider Ryusei Yamanaka will start the Malaysian Grand Prix from the fourth row. The Japanese rider has made it straight into Q2 after improving in the last practice his time from yesterday by more than a second. However, the temperature of the track has increased in qualifying and he has not been able to get a better time. Despite this, Yamanaka has considerably improved his feeling on the bike and he will fight for his first podium in the category from twelfth place. His teammate David Alonso has suffered two crashes which have complicated his day and will start the Malaysian Grand Prix from the seventh row. In the last practice session, he has crashed out when he was looking for a fast lap on the new tyres, while in Q1 he has suffered a heavy bump on his last lap when he was fighting to get through Q2. The Colombian has gone to the medical centre, where the doctors have ruled out any kind of injury. Alonso will have to come back from 21st place tomorrow, but he is confident he can achieve a good result.

12th Ryusei Yamanaka 2:12.308: “Tomorrow we will start from twelfth on the grid. In the last free practice I have felt more comfortable with the bike, but the conditions have changed a lot in qualifying. With more temperature on the track, I have missed a bit of grip on the front. Tomorrow we will fight for the podium from the fourth row and we will try it until the end.”

21st David Alonso 2:12.915: “It has been a tough day. In the last practice I was riding comfortably on the used tyres, but when I have put the new ones, I have not been able to complete a good lap and get into Q2. In qualifying, I only had one chance to get my time with new tyres, but I have crashed in the third corner. However, we are ready for tomorrow's race and we will try to move up little by little.”
