Fourth row on the grid for Alonso

Gaviota GASGAS Aspar riders, David Alonso and Ryusei Yamanaka, will try to move up from the fourth and eighth row in Barcelona

Iván Ortolá has taken today the first pole position of his career in a qualifying that has been decided on the last lap. The Spanish rider, fourth in the overall standings, will have a good opportunity tomorrow to reduce the gap with the championship leader, Dani Holgado, who will start from eleventh place. Deniz Öncü, second, and Jaume Masià, fourth, will also be looking to take advantage of their grid position to get into the championship fight. Ayumu Sasaki will have a tougher task, as he will start from thirteenth. Collin Veijer, who had already been the fastest rider in practice, will complete the front row.

Gaviota GASGAS Aspar riders, David Alonso and Ryusei Yamanaka, will have to come back from fourth and eighth row in tomorrow's race. The Colombian has gone directly to Q2, but in qualifying he has not been able to set a time until the last lap. Alonso has not had an easy second day in Barcelona, but tomorrow he will try to fight with the leaders from twelfth position. His teammate, Ryusei Yamanaka, will start the Catalan Grand Prix from 22nd. The Japanese rider has been unable to improve his lap time in the last practice session, so he has had to go through Q1. In that session, the wind has made him struggle to get a good time. As his teammate, Yamanaka will try to make a good start in order to recover positions quickly.

12th David Alonso 1:49.065: “The second day in Barcelona has not been easy. I have had the opportunity to qualify in a better position, but we are not as fast as we want on this track. It has been difficult to get a good position on the grid because there are several spots on the track in which we are not comfortable. Tomorrow will be a tough race.”

22nd Ryusei Yamanaka 1:50.182: “Qualifying has been very difficult because of the wind. With these conditions, it has been complicated to get a lap riding on my own. The strategy has not worked for us, we have tried to follow a group, but we have arrived too late. Tomorrow we'll give our best and we'll see what we can do.”
