Foggia makes it through to Q2 in mixed conditions

The Italian CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider started the weekend in Argentina with a good feeling

The first day of the Argentina Grand Prix saw a wide variety of conditions for the Moto3 riders. David Almansa topped the timesheets and lapped under 1:47, joined in the top three by team-mates Álvaro Carpe and José Antonio Rueda. With the track wet from overnight rain, Dennis Foggia and Jakob Rosenthaler rode the morning free practice with the focus on getting a good feeling on a circuit unfamiliar to most of the riders on the grid. In the afternoon, the timed practice was carried out in dry conditions, changing the approach for the small category riders. Foggia took advantage of his experience at the Termas de Río Hondo circuit to make a big step forward and close the gap to the leading riders. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider moved into the top ten and took ninth place with a time of 1:48.085, qualifying directly for tomorrow's Q2.

Jakob Rosenthaler completed the first day in Argentina concentrating on adapting to an unfamiliar circuit. The Austrian rider had a good feeling despite the difficult conditions. In the afternoon session and with the track in dry conditions, Rosenthaler tried to keep a good pace and looked for a place in Q2. In the end, his 1:49.023 placed him in 24th position and tomorrow he will have to go through Q1 to fight for a good starting position for Sunday's race.

9th Dennis Foggia 1:48.085 (+1.104): “The goal was to get into Q2 and we did it. There are still things to improve, but it's a track I know and I like it a lot. The bike is different, the tyres... everything changes. We adapted quickly to the conditions and to the bike. We did a good job with the team to make a good set-up. The important thing is that we're there and tomorrow we'll take another step towards a good qualifying.”

24th Jakob Rosenthaler 1:49.023 (+2.042): “The morning session went well in mixed conditions, more in the wet. I had a good feeling from the beginning, although I couldn't do many laps to learn the track and get used to it. I liked the track and I'm looking forward to the dry sessions to keep improving. I don't really know why I lost so much time, I rode with some riders and felt good, but I need to adapt more to these conditions. I didn't have any big problems, I tried to do a good lap but it didn't go the way I wanted it to.”
