The Italian rider battled against the high temperatures and was just four tenths off pole position
The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team continues to make progress at the Thai Grand Prix, which hosted the qualifying sessions on Saturday. The high temperatures were the main protagonists and added an extra difficulty to face the second day at the Chang International Circuit. With the new competition system, Dennis Foggia and Jakob Rosenthaler had to compete in Q1 after not being able to secure a direct pass to Q2 yesterday. The Italian rider managed to lap under 1:41 this morning and he has made a place in Q2 to fight for the best possible result ahead of the first race of the year. In a very tight session, Foggia set the thirteenth fastest time, a 1:41.276 that left him just four tenths behind Matteo Bertelle, who took the first pole of the season. He will be joined on the front row by Stefano Nepa and José Antonio Rueda.
Jakob Rosenthaler continues to work on an unfamiliar circuit for him, which makes it even more difficult to adapt to the qualifying rounds. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar rider set his best time of the weekend this morning, when he was almost two seconds faster than on Friday. Already in qualifying, Rosenthaler tried to put in a good lap to face Sunday's race from a good position, although his 1:42.367 relegated him to the ninth row of the grid, and tomorrow he will have to come back to score the first points of the season.
12+1 Dennis Foggia 1:40.874: “Day by day we have improved and we have made a big step forward compared to the first tests, and this is very positive. We achieved our goal of getting into Q2 and we were just four tenths off pole. It is a new system and we have to get used to it, the temperatures were also very high. We are having a good weekend, the race is always the race and the start will be very important. We will continue to improve.”
25th Jakob Rosenthaler 1:42.367: “The morning went very well and we made another step forward compared to yesterday. I felt strong, improving my times by more than a second and a half and I'm very happy about that. We were also able to close the gap to the first riders. In qualifying I tried to look for a good lap but, unfortunately, I couldn't get it. I'm not happy with that, but tomorrow in the race everything can change.”
