The Spanish rider made it through to Q2 in Jerez, while Dennis Foggia finished 22nd
This Friday saw the start of one of the most eagerly awaited races on the calendar. The good track conditions in Jerez allowed the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team to start the day with a lot of motivation. Joel Esteban and Dennis Foggia focused the first day on fine-tuning their set-up and on certifying a direct pass to Q2, something that the Spanish rider managed to achieve. Esteban, who is once again replacing Máximo Quiles due to injury this weekend, went from strength to strength in the two sessions held today. In the afternoon, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider made a big jump from the morning session and improved his lap times by more than a second. Esteban was competitive and gave his best to avoid Q1. Finally, his 1:45.590 put him in fourteenth position after a tight last few minutes, with José Antonio Rueda leading the field and more than a second ahead of second-placed Álvaro Carpe. Taiyo Furusato completed the top three in the category.
Dennis Foggia, on the other hand, did not have the expected start to the weekend. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider didn't have the best feeling on the bike and had to adapt to the high temperatures at the Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto. Foggia was only able to improve his morning time by a few tenths of a second and was unable to reach the Q2 positions. With a time of 1:46.106 he finished the first day at Jerez in 22nd place. The Italian will continue to work with the team to be more competitive tomorrow and be able to fight for a good grid position.
14th Joel Esteban 1:45.590 (+1.820): “I'm happy because we got straight into Q2. When I realised, I was happy because it helps you a lot to get a better start on the grid. My feeling was good. In the morning the track was a bit dirty and we couldn't be competitive. In the afternoon we had a problem with the first tyre, but the team did a great job and thanks to them we made it through to Q2. We know what we have to do, both on the bike and my riding, to keep improving tomorrow.”
22nd Dennis Foggia 1:46.106 (+2.336): “I didn't have a good feeling with the bike today. We need to study the data well, because today I couldn't really exploit neither my potential nor the bike’s. We are a long way off, and it's a shame after the good feeling we had in Qatar. We'll try to understand what's going on so we can give our best tomorrow and fight for Q2.”
