The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider takes the best grid position of his career and will start the Indonesian Grand Prix from third place
Diogo Moreira will lead the front row of the grid at the Indonesian Grand Prix. The Brazilian rider has achieved his first pole position of the season after a qualifying session in which the times have not been as fast as in the last free practice. A lap of 1:39.085 has been enough for Moreira to be the strongest and he will have a good opportunity tomorrow to get his first victory in the category. Jaume Masià has ended just 0.040 off the Brazilian's time and will start from second position, while the Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso has taken the third place and will start from the front of the grid for the first time. Dani Holgado will begin from eighth and Ayumu Sasaki from eleventh. Both riders will try to fight with the front group to prevent Jaume Masià from opening a gap in the overall standings.
David Alonso has achieved in Indonesia the best grid position of his World Championship career. The Colombian will start from third place after finishing just two tenths off the fastest time of the session. Alonso had never been on the front row even when he was competing in JuniorGP, and he will make his debut tomorrow after a qualifying session in which he has shown great confidence. The best rookie in the category will try to stay with the front group throughout the race and arrive to the final part with options of getting his fourth win of the year. His teammate Ryusei Yamanaka has not been able to make it through to Q2 and will start the Indonesian Grand Prix from 19th place. The Japanese rider has been in the positions that give access to the Q2 throughout the session. However, Joshua Whatley has improved his time in one of his last laps and has qualified for Q2 for the first time this season. Twelve thousandths have prevented Yamanaka from fighting for a better grid position, but tomorrow the Japanese rider will try to improve his bike's set-up and complete a comeback and reach the front group.
3rd David Alonso 1:39.310: “Tomorrow we'll start from a good position on the grid. We won't have to take so many risks in the first laps. We'll try to push hard from the start to prevent the group from breaking away. I feel comfortable on this circuit. We are competitive and we will enjoy in the race.”
19th Ryusei Yamanaka 1:40.179: “I have not had a good feeling with the front of the bike. I couldn't get into Q2 and I have had a difficult qualifying. Tomorrow we'll start from 19th and we'll give our best to be able to follow the front group.”
