ARGENTINA GP

David Alonso to lead third row in Argentina

The Colombian rider will be seventh on the grid in a race that Ryusei Yamanaka will start eighteenth

Ayumu Sasaki has taken his second consecutive pole position of the season. The Japanese rider has stopped the clock in the final qualifying session in 1:48.539, just one tenth of a second off the track record set by Sergio Garcia Dols last year. Sasaki, who was already fastest yesterday, will repeat on the front row for the second year in a row at the Argentina Grand Prix. Deniz Öncü, who has gone through Q1, and Diogo Moreira will complete the top three starting positions.

David Alonso will start his second race as a World Championship rider from the third row of the grid. The Autosolar GASGAS Aspar rider has set a best time lap of 1:49.454, which has allowed him to get a creditable seventh position. Alonso has finished just two tenths off the top three and was satisfied with his performance on the second day of racing in Argentina. His teammate Ryusei Yamanaka will start from 18th place. The Japanese rider had gone through Q1, where he had set the fourth fastest time, and will start tomorrow from the sixth row of the grid. Yamanaka will be looking to continue improving his feeling with the bike and make a good start that allows him to climb positions in the first laps.

7th David Alonso 1:49.454 (+0.915): “It was a great day, we got a good seventh place and I had good feelings with the bike. We continue with a solid and consistent ride, always close to the top 10. The first run in the qualifying session wasn't quite good because the tyre temperature wasn't right. In the second one we did the right things and tomorrow we will start seventh. It was important to get a good starting position because this is a circuit where we have no margin. Tomorrow will be a tough race and we will try to stay in the front group.”

18th Ryusei Yamanaka 1:50.342 (+1.803): “After yesterday we made some big changes to the bike which allowed us to improve. We found a good direction, improved the feeling and made it through to Q2, which is a must for me. We still need to improve a few things, but I think we are on the right way for the race.”
