JEREZ TEST

David Alonso starts in strong shape in Jerez

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar rider leads once again a day of Moto3 testing, this time in Jerez, after being fastest in two of the three sessions of the day

CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar rider David Alonso has got off to a strong start in Jerez. The Colombian was the fastest in each of the days of testing in Portimao and today, in his debut at the Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit, he was again the fastest in the category in two of the three sessions. Alonso started the day with a 1:44.570, which was already below the official track record, held by Andrea Migno since 2021 (1:44.988). However, the 2023 rookie of the year has continued to push throughout the day and in his last outing on the track he has lowered this mark to 1:44.356. Behind him, José Antonio Rueda finished second, Dani Holgado was third and Collin Veijer fourth, all of them separated by less than a tenth.

Joel Esteban continues with his preparation for his debut in the World Championship and today, in Jerez, he completed a total of 68 laps between the three sessions available for the small category riders. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar rider achieved his best time (1:45.613) in the afternoon and, throughout the day, he has accumulated an improvement of seven tenths. Despite this, Esteban is aware that he still has room for improvement and will continue fighting tomorrow to get closer to the front riders.

1st David Alonso 1:44.356 (48 laps): “This first day in Jerez has been very important. It is a track with a different style than Portimao, and it has helped us better understand the bike and our riding. I have to keep learning when I can push and when I can't. We have achieved a big number of consecutive laps to understand our race pace. Everything comes more naturally to me every time, but we have to keep working.”

17th Joel Esteban 1:45.613 (+1,257, 68 laps): “I am very happy with how today went. It has been a positive day, in which we have been able to complete many laps to understand the new bike more. We have worked on our pace to be more consistent and tomorrow I hope to be able to continue learning and improving to gradually get closer to the riders in front.”
