David Alonso makes history with a second place at Jerez

Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider has become the first Colombian in the World Championship podium. Yamanaka has suffered a mechanical problem when he was fighting with the front group and has finished 25th

Iván Ortolá has taken his second victory in a row after a thrilling race at the Jerez - Ángel Nieto Circuit. The Spanish rider, who has started from second position, has scored 25 points, which puts him third in the overall standings. Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso has fought with him for the win and has finished second in just his sixth race as a World Championship rider. The top three have been closed by Jaume Masià, who has achieved his second consecutive podium after the one he got in the Americas Grand Prix.

David Alonso has made history at the Jerez - Ángel Nieto Circuit by becoming the first Colombian to achieve a podium. The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider, one of the youngest on the grid, has started from sixteenth place and quickly has moved up to the front group. With just a few laps to go, Alonso has kept strong and has fought for the victory. On the last lap, the Colombian has led the race, but finally has crossed the finish line in second place, putting a golden end to an amazing weekend for him. His teammate Ryusei Yamanaka has not been as lucky. The Japanese rider has suffered a mechanical problem with the gear lever when he was fighting for the podium. Yamanaka has been able to return to the track after a pit stop to fix the problem and has ridden faster than the leading riders, but in the end, he has finished the Spanish Grand Prix 25th position. The Japanese rider continues improving steadily and is getting closer to his first podium in the category.

2nd David Alonso (+0.034): “The feeling of being on the podium is incredible. The race has been very positive. I have reached the front group, I have kept my concentration and with eight laps to go I started to think that the victory was possible. It has not been easy to fight with riders like Ortolá, Masià or Holgado, but in the end, I got my first World Championship podium and I am very happy for that.”

25th Ryusei Yamanaka (1 lap): “The race was amazing. I was comfortable with the bike, with the pace and I felt ready to fight for the podium. I had everything to do it, but unfortunately, I had to go into the pit box to repair the bike. I'm sad about it, but these are things that can happen in this sport. Nevertheless, I'm happy because we were fast. We will come back stronger at Le Mans.”
