David Alonso gives no option and takes his fifth pole of the year

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has led all the weekend sessions and tomorrow he will fight to get his eighth victory of the season

Whether it is sunny or rainy, CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider David Alonso has shown that he is one step ahead of his rivals in the Aragon GP. Alonso has achieved in MotorLand pole position, his fifth so far this season, after leading all the practice sessions. Yesterday he was fastest in the dry and this morning, despite the track being wet, he has been the pacesetter again. When it was time to fight for a good grid position, the track had improved, but no one has been able to match yesterday's times. The World Championship leader was the favourite to get pole was the favourite to get pole and he has done so with flying colours. In his first outing on the track, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has set a time of 1:59.867, a register that had put him on top of the timesheets. In his second outing, with new tyres, the Colombian has been able to lower his time to 1:58.059 to take pole position. Alonso has finished four tenths ahead of José Antonio Rueda, who will start from second position, and one second ahead of third-placed David Muñoz. In tomorrow's race Alonso will fight to get his eighth win of the year and extend his lead in the World Championship over his main rivals, who have not been able to go past the third row of the grid. Dani Holgado will start from seventh position; Collin Veijer from ninth and Iván Ortolá from tenth.

CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider Joel Esteban will start tomorrow from the fifth row of the grid. Esteban has been very competitive throughout the practice sessions, going straight to Q2 and in qualifying he has set the thirteenth best time. The rookie is confident that he will be able to fight with the leading group tomorrow regardless of the race conditions.

1st David Alonso 1:58.059: “Today the track was difficult, you could not go off the line. At the beginning of the session, I have checked how the track was and in the second run, with the new tyre, I have given my best. The last five laps of the race will be key for the tyres, that is when you have to know how to ride and when everything will be decided.”

12+1 Joel Esteban 2:00.239 (+2.180): “I am happy with today, although in qualifying I have not got the result I expected. We have made a step forward. I have learned a lot when I have been riding behind my teammate. This morning, we have been riding in wet conditions and I have been competitive. If it rains tomorrow, we can have a great race.”
