David Alonso flies to take back-to-back pole positions

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has led all the Spanish Grand Prix sessions

CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider David Alonso has flown in Jerez to take a new pole position, his second in a row after the one he took in the United States. The young Colombian has dominated once again all the sessions of the weekend, including the final practice in wet conditions, and will start from the front of the grid tomorrow. Alonso has set a time of 1:44.954, finishing two tenths ahead of second-placed David Muñoz, who has set the time with the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar rider's reference, and over a second over third-placed Collin Veijer. The rain has spoilt the morning session at the Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto and during the Moto3 qualifying sessions, there were still patches of water on the asphalt. Tomorrow, Alonso will fight for his third win of the season in a race in which World Championship leader Dani Holgado will start from eighteenth place after suffering a heavy crash on his first flying lap in qualifying.

Joel Esteban has achieved the best qualifying position of his World Championship career at the Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has been eighth after going directly to Q2, one of his objectives this weekend. Esteban has shone in the wet conditions this morning, setting the second fastest time, just 96 thousandths off his team-mate. In qualifying, the rookie has been very competitive, but a mistake in the last corner of his last lap has impeded him from qualifying better.  Looking ahead to tomorrow's race, Esteban is confident and hopes to recover positions to fight with the leading group.

1st David Alonso (1:44.954): "Leading the last wet practice has been like a victory for me, because I had a pending subject with the rain and I have overcome my fears. For qualifying, the track has dried out at the end, something that didn’t seem very clear. I have been very careful with the water patches and I have pushed as hard as I could. For the race, the tyres will be at the limit, we have to see what strategy and what tyre we will use, because we will have to save a bit for the end."

8th Joel Esteban (+1.646): "It has been a very positive day, although eighth in the qualifying is a bit disappointing. We have started in wet conditions with the last practice session and at the beginning it has been a bit difficult because it was just the second time, I have ridden the Moto3 bike in wet conditions and I had not ridden much with these tyres, but little by little I have improved my feeling and I have finished second. We have achieved our goal of going straight into Q2, I have been very determined and I have managed to finish eighth. I have made a mistake in the last corner when I was improving my time and I was close to finish in the top five, so tomorrow I will have to come back."
