CATALAN GP

David Alonso continues on top in Moto3

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has been fastest in the two sessions and has broken the record of the Circuit de Barcelona - Catalunya

CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider David Alonso has started the Catalan GP as he finished the French GP: first. The young Colombian has been fastest on the first day at the Circuit de Barcelona - Catalunya and, once again this season, he has broken the track record. Alonso has led both the morning and afternoon sessions and has been on top since the Grand Prix of the Americas in all the practice sessions held. In the morning, he set a fastest lap of 1:46.838, a time with which he improved the previous record of the Catalan track, held by Gabri Rodrigo since 2021, by seven tenths. In the afternoon, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has focused on working on race pace and, although he has been fastest again, he has not been able to improve his record from the first session. Alonso has set a time of 1:46.897,158 thousandths ahead of José Antonio Rueda, who has finished second. World Championship leader, Dani Holgado, has been third, 239 thousandths off the Colombian.

CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider Joel Esteban has finished in twelfth position. In the first session, Esteban had been more than a second off his teammate, but in the afternoon, he has managed to reduce that distance to eight tenths. Esteban, who is competing in his home Grand Prix this weekend, is satisfied with the work done, but he knows he still needs to improve to fight for the front positions.

1st David Alonso 1:46.897: “This morning I went out on the soft tyre to try to get a good lap, but in the afternoon, I have been riding on the hard tyre and we have focused on race pace. We are happy with the pace, but there are still some points I can improve, especially with the new tyres. We have a very good base with the bike and we feel very comfortable. I am satisfied with the work we have done, but as I always say: today it’s zero points, what matters is the race.”

12th Joel Esteban 1:47.788 (+0.891): “It has been a quite positive day and, for now, we are within the positions that give access to Q2. I am happy because this is a circuit in which I have never achieved great results, but little by little we are taking steps forward. I have to continue working to improve, because I have done the time with a reference and there are things that I have not yet achieved on my own. Anyway, we are on the right way."
