David Alonso back on the podium after a thrilling race

The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider closes the Indonesian Grand Prix with a second place after a battle with overtakes, incidents and penalties

Diogo Moreira has taken at the Indonesian Grand Prix the first World Championship victory of his career. The polesitter has achieved the win after a race where the emotion has been kept up until the end. More than ten riders have arrived to the last lap with chances to cross the finish line in first position. However, it has been the Brazilian who has done it with a difference of only one tenth over the Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso, who has scored his fifth podium in the category. David Muñoz has finished third, just 23 thousandths off the Colombian rider. In the championship battle, Jaume Masià leaves Mandalika as leader after finishing sixth, and now has an advantage of 16 points over Dani Holgado and 17 points over Ayumu Sasaki. Holgado has received two penalties when he was fighting for the win and, despite crossing the finish line in ninth position, he has closed the Indonesian Grand Prix in fourteenth place. Ayumu Sasaki has had a very difficult day on the Asian track. The Japanese rider has crashed on the warm-up lap and has had a problem at the start, losing eleven positions on the first lap. In the end, the Japanese rider has ended eighteenth and has not been able to score any point.

Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso is back on the podium after a very exciting race at the Mandalika circuit. The Colombian has stayed in the front positions throughout the race, resisting the overtakes and contacts with other riders. Alonso has arrived to the last lap with chances of victory, but finally has crossed the finish line in second position. With these 20 points, the Colombian moves closer to the top 3 in the standings and extends his lead as the best rookie of the year to 69 points with five races to go. His GASGAS Aspar teammate Ryusei Yamanaka has ended the Indonesian Grand Prix in fifteenth place. The Japanese rider couldn't follow the front group and has fought to get into the points. In the final part of the race, Yamanaka has received a penalty, but this has not prevented him from achieving his aim and adds one more point for the standings. Next weekend, the Japanese rider will have another opportunity to score a good result at the Australian Grand Prix.

2nd David Alonso (+0.107): “I'm very happy to be on the podium because we had had some problems to fight for it in the last races. We started from the front row and we have managed it well. It has been a big battle, I have had lots of contacts with other riders, but despite everything I have been able to stay on the bike. I have not been not quite comfortable with the gears, but we have ended up with options to take the win. We will celebrate a few days here before going to Australia!”

15th Ryusei Yamanaka (+9.094): “I have started from 19th and it was difficult to catch-up in the beginning and also to overtake. I have made some good laps but we need to find a solution to be faster because I have lost a lot in the second sector. Anyway, we’ll work hard from the first practice in Australia and will try our best.”
