The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider arrives at the twelfth grand prix with a 71-point leadand will fight to extend his advantage
MotorLand Aragón returns to the World Championship calendar after a season away. The Spanish track celebrates the twelfth grand prix of the season this weekend and the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team wants to complete a good weekend in front of its home fans. Although neither David Alonso nor Joel Esteban have competed in MotorLand in the World Championship, they have done so in smaller categories, so they know the track well. The last time Moto3 competed in MotorLand, in 2022, Izan Guevara took victory for the Aspar Team ahead of Ayumu Sasaki and Dani Holgado. From that podium,, only Holgado remains in the category and he will surely be a rival to be focused on, as well as Iván Ortolá, who finished sixth in that race. David Alonso's challenge at the Aragón GP is clear: to add another victory, which would be the eighth of the season and the twelfth of his Moto3 career. The young Colombian arrives as a solid lightweight category leader, with a 71-point advantage over his closest pursuer, Ortolá. In Aragón he will seek to extend his lead for one more race. In his last visit to MotorLand, when he was competing in the Junior World Championship in 2022, Alonso finished fourth, after leading the chasing group, just outside of a podium in which Collin Veijer and José Antonio Rueda were on.
CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider Joel Esteban travels to Aragón eager to get a great result to leave the Austrian GP behind. The rookie crashed on Saturday at the Red Bull Ring and this affected his weekend. Now, Esteban arrives in MotorLand fully recovered and with the aim of scoring points in Moto3 again. The Spanish is confident of getting a good result that will allow him to close the gap with his rivals in the fight to be the best rookie of the year. After the first eleven races, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider lies in fifteenth position in the World Championship, five points behind Jacob Roulstone and 32 behind Ángel Piqueras, with whom he is fighting to be the best rookie. Last year, in the only race held on MotorLand in the JuniorGP category, Esteban was fighting for victory until the last lap, when he crashed and was unable to close the weekend with a good result.
David Alonso: “It has been a long time since we have competed in Aragon, and they have also resurfaced it, so, although it is a track we know, many things have changed. It is a track where it is very difficult to ride alone, so we will have to work on that. The set up will also be important, because it has some very peculiar corners."
Joel Esteban: "I am really looking forward to competing in the Aragon GP, especially after a difficult weekend in Austria. In MotorLand we are going to continue working alone, we are going to focus on our pace. I think we can get a good result."
