CFMOTO Viel Aspar Team challenges itself on the first day in Aragon

Foggia and Quiles have been left out of Q2 at MotorLand Aragon after a difficult practice session

CFMOTO Viel Aspar Team completed on Friday the first practice sessions of the Aragón Grand Prix, which were marked by high temperatures both on and off the track. Dennis Foggia and Máximo Quiles failed to qualify directly for Q2 after finishing seventeenth and twenty-first respectively, despite both riders having had positive feelings after this morning's free practice session. In the lightweight category, José Antonio Rueda once again started the weekend in the lead, followed by David Muñoz and David Almansa.

Máximo Quiles arrived at the eighth round of the season highly motivated after securing his first Moto3 podium at the British Grand Prix. The Spanish rider took advantage of competing this weekend at a circuit he knows well to show strong pace from this morning's free practice, in which he finished fourth. In this afternoon's timed practice, Quiles tried to secure direct entry into Q2. However, a crash in the opening minutes prevented him from completing the session. Quiles was able to return to the track after some good work by the team, but with only five minutes left to set a good time. This situation, combined with numerous crashes and yellow flags, forced the CFMOTO Viel Aspar Team rider to push hard on the last lap, where he was hampered by several riders stopped on the track. With only five laps completed and a time of 1:59.263, he finished in twenty-first position.

His teammate Dennis Foggia also had a good start to the weekend after finishing eighth in the morning's free practice. In this afternoon's practice, the Italian continued to fine-tune his set-up and managed to improve on his morning time and occupy Q2 positions for much of the session. The CFMOTO Viel Aspar Team rider took advantage of his experience at this circuit to try to avoid going through Q1 but, like his teammate, he was also affected by the slow pace of the riders in the category in the final minutes. As a result, Foggia finished seventeenth with a time of 1:58.926 and will also have to go through Q1.

17th Dennis Foggia 1:58.926 (+1.588): “There was a lot of chaos in the final laps of practice. We weren't able to improve and we missed out on Q2. The positive thing is that I feel good on the bike. Tomorrow we will continue working to get into Q2, and prepare well for Sunday's race.”

21st Máximo Quiles 1:59.263 (+1.925): "The important thing is that we have good feelings and speed. I was doing very well before the crash, I was going fast, but the steering locked up and I couldn't avoid going down. Then it took a long time for the bike to get back to the garage, and although the team did a great job fixing it, I only had time to do two laps at the end of the session. On the first lap, I tried to check that everything was OK, and on the second lap I was setting a time that would have allowed me to get into Q2, but four or five riders stopped in the middle of the track and prevented me from completing the lap. Tomorrow we'll try to get into Q2, it will be good for us to ride in Q1 as well."
