CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team back in action after the summer break

David Alonso has finished sixth on the first day in Silverstone after crashing, while Joel Esteban has ended in seventeenth position

After three weeks, Moto3 is back on track at the BritishGP. The sun has shone on the first day in Silverstone and the riders in the lightweight category have taken advantage of the good track conditions to get back into the competition pace. In the morning session, CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider David Alonso has been the fastest and has set a 2:09.600, a time with which he has improved by one second the previous lap record, held by Romano Fenati since 2021. However, in the afternoon, the young Colombian has been unable to replicate his time. Alonso has crashed and, although he has managed to recover the bike and get back on track, he has only been able to finish sixth, half a second off the fastest rider, Collin Veijer. Dutch has been really competitive and has beaten by 35 thousandths the record that Alonso had set in the morning. Spanish Iván Ortolá has finished second and rookie Jacob Roulstone, third. Despite the crash, Alonso is satisfied with the work done; his feelings have been good from the start and he knows where he needs to work to improve.

His teammate Joel Esteban has been seventeenth on the first day in Silverstone. The young rookie has completed two positive practices on a new track for him, he has felt comfortable with both the new and used tyres and he has worked with his mind set it the qualifying sessions. Esteban has finished less than three tenths off from being in the provisional Q2 positions. Tomorrow, in the last session before qualifying, he will have to take a step forward to be able to get straight to the fight for pole.

6th David Alonso 2:10.162 (+0.597): “The first day after the summer break has been positive. I have felt comfortable on the bike from the start. We have worked alone to understand the track well, because, although I won here last year, it was a track that I struggled with throughout the weekend. I have tried to improve in the areas where I was struggling last year and I still have some areas to work on, especially in the fourth sector. The difference compared to last year is noticeable, but tomorrow we have to continue progressing because the laps have not been very clean. In general, despite the crash, it has been a positive day.”

17th Joel Esteban 2:10.934 (+1.369): “I am very happy with the first day in Silverstone. It is a track that I did not know and I have really liked it. It has been a pretty positive day. We have ridden the entire first session with the same tyre and we have managed to be fast with the used tyre. In the second practice session I have used new tyres for both runs and I have felt very comfortable. We have worked on a fast lap and we have got a good time, although we have ended three tenths off the Q2 positions. This afternoon we will continue working to see where we can improve and tomorrow, we will try to get straight to Q2.”
