CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team secures Q2 with a double top 10 finish

Máximo Quiles took an outstanding fifth place on his return to competition, while Dennis Foggia was seventh

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team faced this Friday the mythical circuit of Le Mans and its unpredictable weather conditions. Máximo Quiles returned to the team after his injury and qualified directly in Q2, in fifth position, in his first Grand Prix on European soil. Dennis Foggia also met the target and will avoid the Q1 on Saturday by being seventh. As for the rest of the riders in the category, David Muñoz set the pace on this day, in which up to thirteen riders lapped within half a second. The Spanish rider was closely followed by Ryusei Yamanaka, second, and Adrián Fernández, third. The leader of the Moto3 standings, José Antonio Rueda, was ninth.

The day was marked by low temperatures (especially in this morning's free practice) and numerous crashes, which stopped the sessions on two occasions. Máximo Quiles has made a big step in the afternoon session and has lowered his times by two seconds compared to the morning free practice. The Spanish rider is showing a great ability to adapt and quickly placed himself among the fastest riders to secure a place in Q2. Quiles set his best time, 1:40.475, on the penultimate lap, just two tenths off the reference time and ended the day in fifth place. Similarly, Dennis Foggia also had a good feeling at the start of the French Grand Prix. In the afternoon, the Italian improved his morning time and worked on the set-up to get the best possible riding feeling. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider rode alone and went from strength to strength, making the most of his chances to get close to the reference times. In a great last lap, Foggia climbed up to seventh position and, with a time of 1:40.553, he was just three tenths off the fastest rider. In this way, both riders will be in contention for the front positions of the starting grid tomorrow.

5th Máximo Quiles 1:40.475 (+0.239): “After the injury I felt good, I focused on recovering my feeling because I hadn't been on the bike for a while. I'm super happy, I had a good pace, although I didn't want to force too much in the morning session. In the afternoon we went a step further and I felt very comfortable. I'm happy with this first contact and tomorrow we'll go for a good position for the race.”

7th Dennis Foggia 1:40.553 (+0.317): “In the afternoon practice I felt good and we made another step forward. We worked focused on tomorrow's qualifying, we are three tenths of a second off the first and I was also fast riding alone. Tomorrow we will use the free practice to prepare for the race and make a good choice of tyres. I want to say thanks to the team for all the work, see you tomorrow!”
