CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team secures another Q2 battle

Máximo Quiles achieved the sixth fastest time of the day, while Dennis Foggia was thirteenth

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team will once again fight for the top positions on the starting grid at the San Marino Grand Prix. Máximo Quiles set the sixth fastest time in Moto3, while Dennis Foggia was thirteenth. Both riders secured their direct passage to tomorrow's Q2 on a Friday in which David Almansa had no rivals. The Spanish rider was fourth tenths fastest ahead of his teammate Adrián Fernández, who finished second today. Australian rider Joel Kelso completed the top three, half a second behind Almansa's time.

The Misano World Circuit hosted the first practice sessions of the San Marino Grand Prix on Friday, and the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders enjoyed a productive day of work. Máximo Quiles and Dennis Foggia took part in this morning's free practice session, focused on giving their best from the first time out on track. The Italian, who is competing in his home Grand Prix this weekend, maintained a good pace that allowed him to finish in the top five of the standings, while his teammate worked on improving his riding on the Italian track. Although Quiles was somewhat further back in the standings, in seventeenth place, his feelings were very positive ahead of the afternoon's practice. It was at this point that the Spaniard stepped up a gear and was able to improve his times by more than a second. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider remained at the top of the standings, even reaching the top 3. Finally, his 1:41.272 put him in sixth place, six tenths off the best time. Dennis Foggia, on the other hand, had to work hard to avoid Q1 tomorrow. The Italian rider had some difficulties in the morning session, but he was able to quickly resolve them with the team and slightly improved his times to achieve the time (1:41.701) that gave him direct access to Q2 alongside Quiles.

6th Máximo Quiles 1:41.272 (+0.676): “We've made a step forward in terms of our riding style. The strategy was good in the morning, but we didn't want to fit a new tyre in the final part of the session, which is why we ended up a little further back. In the afternoon, I focused more and was able to improve my style a lot, which helped me move up the rankings. I'm happy with today, but it's time to keep working and push hard.”

12+1 Dennis Foggia 1:41.701 (+1.105): “This morning I felt good and pushed hard from the start. In the afternoon, we tried something that didn't work well at first, but we were able to fix it quickly. I worked hard to get through to Q2 and was able to put in a good lap at the last minute. I didn't expect it to be so hard at the start of the afternoon, but I tried to stay focused and we stuck to the plan to qualify comfortably for Q2. We have solved many doubts and are ready for tomorrow.”
