CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team completes the triple crown

David Alonso has scored his twelfth win of the year in Thailand, a victory that gives CFMOTO the constructors' championship and CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar the world teams' championship

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team has today achieved the triple crown in the Moto3 category. David Alonso, who was crowned world champion in Japan, has claimed a new victory in the Thai GP, a win that seals the three championships the team was fighting for. Thanks to the twelve victories that the Colombian has scored, CFMOTO has become the first Chinese manufacturer to win the constructors' title in the World Championship. In addition, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team has also won the teams' championship with two races to go.

The Moto3 world champion continues to make history. With the win in Buriram, Alonso is now the rider with the most wins in a single year in the lightweight category, beating Valentino Rossi's record from 1997. Furthermore, the Colombian has become the first rider in Moto3 history to win five races in a row. After having competed in both practice and qualifying in dry conditions and with high temperatures, the rain has changed the race conditions. As a result, the race distance has been reduced from 19 to 12 laps to give the riders more time to check the conditions of the asphalt. However, at the start, the track was practically dry and the riders have opted to put dry tyres. CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider David Alonso has started from fifth place, but he has quickly recovered positions to remain in the top three throughout the race. With four laps to go, Alonso has overtaken Taiyo Furusato to take the lead and, although Ivan Ortolá has overtaken him on the last lap, the champion has quickly recovered the first position to claim his twelfth victory of the year. The fight for the other two podium positions has also remained open until the end, with four riders in the battle. Luca Lunetta has finished second and Collin Veijer, third.

CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider Joel Esteban has been unable to see the chequered flag at the Thai GP. The Spanish, who has started from eighteenth, has been really strong in the first laps and has climbed up to twelfth place. Esteban has fought in the second group throughout the race until he has high sided with three laps to go, a crash that has not had physical consequences for the Spanish rider.

WIN David Alonso: “The last few laps have not been easy, I was already thinking about the record of victories. This win is for my team, because they always do a perfect job and they deserve everything. It is incredible to have won the constructors’ and teams’ titles so soon. In any case, I am still motivated: I want to enjoy my last two races in Moto3 to the fullest.”

Joel Esteban (crash): “It has not been an easy race because the track was in mixed conditions. We have had to choose the tyre well and we have made the right decision. I have felt very comfortable from the start. It has been a shame to start from so far back because I have not been able to make a big comeback. In the first laps, overtaking on the inside in areas where the track was wet has been very difficult. Little by little I have regained positions until I have reached the second group. I wanted to get a good result, but with three laps to go I have crashed and have not been able to finish. I am not completely happy with the weekend because I have not achieved all the objectives I had, but I have got back the good feeling.”
