Máximo Quiles and Dennis Foggia have secured direct entry into Q2 after finishing the first day in third and eighth position respectively
The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders achieved their first goal of the weekend at the Brno circuit. Máximo Quiles got the third fastest time in qualifying despite the track being completely unfamiliar to him, while Dennis Foggia finished eighth. Both riders secured direct entry into Q2 on a Friday marked by weather conditions. Rookie Álvaro Carpe was the fastest of the day and set a new all-time lap record, ahead of his teammate and Moto3 leader José Antonio Rueda, who was second.
After a wet free practice session, the skies cleared for the afternoon session and the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team duo took to the track in search of a place in tomorrow's Q2. Máximo Quiles, who felt good and finished in the top 5 this morning, rode below the track record (previously held by MotoGP rider Álex Rins) and was one of the first riders to lead the standings. The Spanish rider tried to maintain the lead and rode alone to continue memorising the key points of the circuit. In the final minutes, he was unable to improve on his own time, and his 2:06.174 placed him in third place, three tenths behind the fastest rider. His teammate Dennis Foggia also made a big leap in the afternoon session to move up to the top 10. The Italian also rode in 2:06 times and showed off his experience at Brno to continue improving his times, finishing eighth with a 2:06.403, half a second off the reference time.
3rd Máximo Quiles 2:06.174 (+0.334): “Yesterday, when I was walking around the track, I already had the feeling that I was going to enjoy this circuit. It has fast and tight corners, which is what I like. It took me a while to get a good feel on the bike at first, but the team set it up really well to help me feel more comfortable. I decided to ride on my own and managed to set a good time. On the next lap, I made a mistake and couldn't keep up the pace, but I'm looking forward to continuing to learn and ride here. We all still need more practice in general, and I think tomorrow will be an important day to prepare for the race.”
8th Dennis Foggia 2:06.403 (+0.563): “I'm happy with the start of the weekend. We did a good job in the afternoon session, which is basically like a qualifying because it decides who goes straight through to Q2. I really like this circuit, although the new asphalt causes a lot of tyre wear. The important thing was to get into Q2, so I've achieved my first goal.”
