CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar riders aim for the comeback

The yellow flags have conditioned the qualifying session for Alonso and Esteban, who will start from sixth and fifteenth, respectively

CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders must come back in the Catalan Grand Prix. The Colombian David Alonso will start from sixth position on the grid as his best lap, which had placed him third, has been cancelled because of the yellow flags that were waving on the track due to the falls of the World Championship leader Dani Holgado and the Italian Ricardo Rossi. All this in a qualifying session in which Iván Ortolá has achieved pole position by only 19 thousandths over Dutch Collin Veijer. José Antonio Rueda has completed the top 3 after the cancellation of Alonso's lap. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has been very strong throughout the weekend and this morning in the last practice he had managed to improve the track record by seven tenths. However, in qualifying he has not managed to replicate his best records. Tomorrow the Colombian will fight from the second row for his fourth victory of the year.

His teammate Joel Esteban has also been affected by yellow flags on his best lap, a lap that has been subsequently cancelled. The CFMOTO Aspar Team rider, who had qualified directly for Q2, will start tomorrow from fifteenth position, as he has not been able to complete a clean lap in qualifying. A good start will be key to regain positions and repeat the comeback he completed in the last French Grand Prix.

6th David Alonso 1:47.299 (+0.550): “It has been a good day. In qualifying I was competitive, but the appearance of the yellow flags on the last lap has been a shame. We have to focus on tomorrow's race and decide what strategy we follow. In the last session, we have been able to understand better the used tyre and I have also understood how to get more potential from the new one.”

15th Joel Esteban 1:48.039 (+1.290): “My best lap has been cancelled and in the previous lap I have had a mistake. Tomorrow will be a long race and I start from fifteenth, but in Le Mans I started from seventeenth and I reached the top 5. I have to make a good start to be able to fight with those in front.”
