Both riders have finished inside the top 10, with David Alonso in second position and Joel Esteban in tenth
Moto3 riders are back on track for the eleventh grand prix of the season, the Austrian GP in the Red Bull Ring. Both CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders have finished inside the top 10 on a very positive day at the Austrian track. The sun has shone all day and the good conditions have allowed the riders to break the track record. In the morning session, World Championship leader David Alonso has been the fastest after setting a time of 1:40.331, a register with which he has lowered by half a second the previous record, held by David Muñoz since 2022. In the afternoon, Alonso has managed to improve his lap to 1:40.222. This time has allowed the Colombian to finish second, just 51 thousandths off the fastest rider, José Antonio Rueda. The Spanish has set a new track record by completing a lap in 1:40.171. Alonso's rivals in the World Championship have finished behind him, with Collin Veijer in third position, Iván Ortolá in sixth and Dani Holgado in ninth. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider is confident in his potential on the Austrian track. As well as working to be fast in one lap, Alonso has also spent the first day working on his race pace, as he knows that he can make the difference there on Sunday.
His teammate Joel Esteban has started the Austrian GP with positive feelings. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has been tenth in his debut in the Red Bull Ring and is in provisional Q2 positions. From the first time he has gone out on track, Esteban has felt very comfortable and is satisfied with the work he has done both on a single lap and on race pace. He has also shown great progress from one session to the next: in the first practice he has finished more than a second and a half off the best time, while in the afternoon he has managed to finish just half a second off the leader.
2nd David Alonso 1:40.222 (+0.051): “The Red Bull Ring is a short track, with few corners, and they are also similar between them, which makes riding a little easier. Here we all go fast and the races are tough. We have to work on our pace, even if everything is very tight. It is difficult, but with a good race pace you can make the difference because the braking is very hard and then you have to accelerate a lot. We are working on that.”
10th Joel Esteban 1:40.741 (+0.570): “I am very happy with my first day in Austria. It has been a good day. The first session has been a first contact with the track and I have improved lap by lap. First, I have ridden on the hard tyre and then on the soft. I have not completed a good time attack because I have made some mistakes. In the second session, I knew what I had to improve and I have managed to progress. I have made a good pace; I have been very consistent and I am very happy. Also, the feelings have been positive in the time attack. We have to keep improving for tomorrow, we still have work to do."
